Job Summary: The Communications Co-ordinator provides writing, editing and communications-related support for faculty and departmental projects that support the university\'s priorities and student recruitment efforts.

Nature of work:

Reporting to the Director of Communications and Creative Services (interim), responsibilities include: website content updates and development; Weekly Report development, posting and distribution; web story development and posting; marketing collateral content development and review.

Responsibilities/accountabilities:

Website content development

  • Writing content for new pages as well as new microsites.
  • Editing and publishing content that is submitted through the content management system (CMS)
  • Auditing and reviewing website for outdated content and updating accordingly.
  • Developing and updating profiles for the university\'s Expert Centre.
Weekly Report (university\'s internal newsletter)
  • Writing and editing content submissions.
  • Seeking clarification and additional information from faculties and departments when required.
  • Posting and publishing information using the content management system (CMS).
  • Working with the web team to create and distribute an email version of the newsletter once per week
Web stories
  • Writing news stories for the news section of the university\'s website and/or faculty and department websites.
  • Interviewing faculty, staff, students and partners.
  • Sourcing photos to accompany web stories.
  • Posting stories to website using university\'s CMS.
Additional communications activities
  • Writing and editing content for the university\'s mobile app.
  • Reviewing university-related content for partners\' website and print collateral.
  • Serving as a communications representative at internal and external committee meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills:
  • Solid grasp of CP style.
  • Experience using content management systems.
  • Exceptional writing ability, including the ability to be creative and write in a variety of styles (e.g. straight news, promotional, advertising, human interest, etc.) on tight deadlines.
  • Strong research, interviewing, fact-checking and proofreading skills.
  • Superior organizational/multi-tasking and problem-solving skills.
  • An ability to adapt to changing priorities and projects.
  • Client-centric and thorough understanding of target audience expectations.
  • Ability to work effectively and professionally with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
Required Education:
  • Completion of a Formal Post-Secondary/College/University Program of Three Academic Years.
  • Minimum three-year diploma in Journalism or Public Relations.
  • Verification of Academic credentials may be required.
Required Experience:
  • Over 1 year and including 3 years.
