Hiring Unit:
Office of the Deputy Provost (Student Life and Learning)

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Associate Director International Education, the Communications Assistant will work with the International Education Office, Student Life and Learning, to organize and implement the Global Skills Opportunity Project, a pilot project to explore barriers related to Study Abroad at McGill. This project seeks to provide individual funding to target student groups (low-income students, Indigenous students, and students with disabilities),

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Associate Director in implementing develop a sustainable communication strategy to streamline and increase access to information regarding International Education funding opportunities, services and support available to target student groups.
  • Work with the International Education team and other internal stakeholders to revise and update wraparound services, specifically pre-departure orientation and the McGill Abroad website by integrating essential content on funding opportunities, students with disabilities and Indigenous student and ensure their safety concerns are addressed in an inclusive manner.
  • Support International Education with administrative tasks including setting up meetings, taking minutes, supporting the recruitment process, developing communication material and tracking the project.
  • Collect and analyse data; update the database; generate reports and communicate with collaborators.
  • The list of functions outlined above is representative and not a complete and detailed list of tasks which may be performed by an incumbent. For example, incumbents may be asked to perform some elements of Communications Assistant level \xe2\x80\x9cA\xe2\x80\x9d and/or \xe2\x80\x9cB\xe2\x80\x9d in addition to the above listed functions.


Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
The ideal candidate will be an upper-level graduate student, with experience in project management as well as knowledge and experience and interest in EDI. Preference will be given to candidates who possess the following qualifications:
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with online surveys including organizing, managing, and coding qualitative data, qualitative data analysis.
  • Experience in writing reports and grant applications.
  • Comfortable with software such as Word, Excel and SPSS, NVivo or dedoose
  • High level organizational skills, and the ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong internal motivation and ability to work independently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and teamwork.
  • Willingness and ability to work flexible hours


Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level 4 on a scale of 0-4.

Hourly Salary: (AMUSE C) $25.00















Estimated Number of Work Hours per Week: 15 (Part time)
