Job Description


Purpose:
The Communications Assistant will create and edit content that is informative, educating, entertaining and inspiring for internal and external audiences for the Division of Students. The range of communications writing copy/editing projects includes email communications, email blasts to students, admission letters, social media messaging, marketing material, web page copy, blogs, Divisional stories/features for the institutional enewsletter, speech preparation, video scripts, event collateral, reports and proposals.

Education:
Post secondary education in Journalism, Communications or other related field.

Experience:
A minimum of 1 year of work experience in communications, public relations, journalism or a related discipline.

Skills:
Skills Required: Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written.Publishing expertise in mass media. Proven experience writing and editing in a variety of formats (print, digital, social). Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Demonstrated understanding of how the media works, and the need to respond in timely manner to inquiries, within a deadline-driven environment that emphasizes strong customer service. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to prioritize among many competing demands. Ability to multi-task and meet all communications needs in a prioritized and strategic fashion. Ability to prioritize project initiatives to respond to a fast-paced and somewhat unpredictable workday. Exhibits a results-driven approach with demonstrated problem-solving skills, while meeting multiple deadlines and able to accommodate irregular work hours when necessary. Excellent interpersonal skills required in dealing with a wide variety of constituents (senior staff, faculty, students, alumni, media), sometimes in stressful situations. Ability to interact professionally and effectively with people at all levels of the organization. Ability to work as part of a team-flexibility and willingness to adapt. Strong customer service orientation: proven ability to respond to client requests quickly and professionally. Ability to deal with sensitive and confidential matters related to reputation issues.
