About the Opportunity



As part of our projects-site team, you will play a key role in the success of the project and business.

Summary of Position:

A Commercial Foreman is responsible for ensuring that everything goes smoothly at a construction site. They are responsible for being the point of contact between the construction workers and supervisors. A few of the main duties of a foreman are coordinating tasks for the day, creating schedules for workers, oversee quality of the site.

Duty or Responsibility: Communications

All workers are onsite and ready for work at 7:00am. That means boots, hard hat, vest, gloves, glasses have been adorned prior to 7:00am and worker is physically prepared to walk onsite and work Morning Toolbox Talk to be held each day at 7:00am - 7:15am. Daily tasks to be reviewed along with applicable Safe Work Procedures, Quality Forms, subtrade work areas, expected deliveries for the day. Daily progress expectations to be discussed and measured over the work week to monitor progress. FLHA Completion Permit Completion - Ground Disturbance, Hot Work, etc. Equipment Inspections and Maintenance Logs Site trailer cleanliness, sea can organization, clean work areas - we set the precedent for the entire site. Coffee/lunch breaks - communicate when to be in the trailer and when to be ready to go back to work. Supply of drawing details pertaining to specific work areas. This will be done in conjunction with the site superintendent. Notification of changes to scope and/or drawings to Synergy workers

Duty or Responsibility: Employee Management

Responsible for carpenter, apprentice and labourer assignments of the employees assigned to the project. Oversees the employee performance management, attendance management, disciplinary and safety issues, injury accidents, overtime authorization, timesheet approvals and related administrative matters. Ensure that the appropriate licensing, safety training, certification and occupational health and safety procedures are followed by employees and sub trade workers. Responsible for the synergy safety program compliance on site. Coordinate on the job training for apprentices and mentoring when applicable.

Duty or Responsibility: Administrative and Organizational

Administer quality control programs, including collection of appropriate inspections and documentation as required. Maintaining daily and weekly project documentation such as daily logs, photo records, safety reports, time sheets, etc. consistent with Synergy policies. Maintain site project files, including master set of drawings. Collect all information to produce a red- line as built drawing at project completion. Purchasing of materials, services and acceptance of deliveries, and responsible for safe storage of material (Synergy and customer supplied) on site. Prepare progress reports and short-term look-ahead schedules. Responsible for administration of the safety program and application of OH&S and corporate Safety policy and procedures. Working knowledge of Quality Assurance and Quality Control Practices in the construction industry.

Qualifications Required:

Degree/diploma from a post-secondary or trade school, Journeyman Carpenter, Interprovincial Red Seal & CCA Gold Seal certifications or equivalent combination of experience and education. Professional engineering status or construction trade certification may be required for some projects. Leadership for Safety Excellence, Prime contractor, First Aid, WHMIS, CSTS, Fall Protection training are all mandatory requirements for Site Superintendents. Must have a valid driver's license Must have reliable transportation Must arrive on time and be ready to work at start of shift.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Experience in the construction industry as a construction supervisor, foreman or field superintendent. Demonstrated ability to manage construction projects - utilizing planning, scheduling, cost control, safety, and construction technologies. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) and leadership abilities along with a strong team orientation are required Considerable knowledge of the equipment, material, supplies/suppliers associated with the scope of the construction project at hand Knowledge of the methods and procedure required for the safe handling and storage of construction equipment and supplies Able to read and interpret construction drawing and update as-builts appropriately. Ability to effectively supervise the day-to-day activities of the workforce. Basic level of computer operation - editing documents, scanning, emailing, opening files is mandatory. Advanced computer skills in MS-word, MS-excel, MS-outlook would be an asset. Competent in the operation requirements of material handling vehicles and associated work platforms. Working knowledge of OH&S Act, Code & Regulation. Working knowledge of quality assurance and quality control practices for commercial construction.

Other Requirements:

WHMIS2015 & CSTS-2020 Other construction & safety certifications are an asset but are not mandatory Zoom boom experience an asset Must be able to pass a 50lb Fitness to Work testing Complete Safety Orientation Must be able to read/write and understand English Must have a valid driver's license and transportation Must arrive on time and be ready to work at start of shift Minimum basic tools required.

Working Conditions:

Working at multiple sites requires personal transportation. Valid Driver's license and suitable vehicle. In and out of town work assignments exist. Year-round construction activities, summer, fall, winter, & spring conditions. Interior and exterior work environments. There is an expectation that workers will have to work while utilizing the appropriate PPE for the tasks assigned. Workers may be exposed to hazardous environments and expected to handle hazardous materials. Construction tasks are physically demanding and repetitive and include, but are not limited to the following: reaching, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, rotating standing, walking climbing, crawling, etc. Forces on the body range in intensity from light to very heavy, and duration may be short or for extended periods.

Location & Schedule

Based in and around the Edmonton area Monday to Friday, 7:00am-4:30pm Weekends as the required by the project schedule
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $40.00-$44.00 per hour
