Role Overview
As a Holman CNC Operator, you'll help turn raw materials into the precise, ready-to-assemble parts that power our custom projects--from retail displays and museum exhibits to immersive trade show environments. You'll be responsible for safely operating and helping program CNC equipment, organizing cut parts for downstream teams, and collaborating with the Wood Shop, CNC & Paint Foreman, and Project teams to keep production running smoothly and efficiently.
What You'll Do:
Run CNC equipment with precision and care
Review and understand CNC programs before running them.
Set up and operate CNC machines to maximize efficiency and part quality.
Tool machinery for job-specific requirements, including changing router bits, drill bits, saw blades, aggregates, and applying grease and lubricant as per manufacturer instructions.
Replace and calibrate tools, identify tool wear or damage, and maintain an accurate tool inventory.
Support CNC programming and optimization
Provide clear feedback on CNC programs, flagging risks or improvements to the Lead CNC Programmer and CNC & Paint Foreman.
Maintain organized CNC program files and folders and post PDFs of programs for CNC & Paint Foreman review.
Prepare materials for the next stage of production
Prepare and organize cut parts for the Wood Shop Team, ensuring parts are clean, labeled, and ready for assembly or further machining.
Keep sheet goods organized.
Safely operate a forklift to move materials and finished parts as required.
Keep the shop clean, safe, and running smoothly
Maintain a clean and organized work area throughout the shift, with a final clean-up at the end of each day (including off-cut bins).
Inspect dust collectors daily and empty them as needed.
Communicate equipment maintenance needs or malfunctions to the CNC & Paint Foreman as soon as they are identified.
Actively look for and suggest process improvements, cost savings, and efficiency enhancements.
Collaborate and communicate across teams
Attend and actively participate in weekly shop meetings to understand upcoming jobs, timelines, and priorities.
Identify and communicate risks to job schedules, quality, or material availability.
Maintain open, professional communication with Wood Shop, Assembly, Warehouse, Detailing, Project Managers, and the CNC Programmer--especially around revisions and changes that impact builds.
Champion health & safety
Complete required Health & Safety training and follow all safety policies and procedures.
Lead by example in demonstrating positive health and safety behaviours on the floor.
What You Bring:
1-3 years of CNC operation experience in a millwork, woodworking, or manufacturing environment.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, CNC programs, and production documentation.
Hands-on experience setting up and operating CNC routers or similar equipment (tool changes, calibration, and basic troubleshooting).
Strong understanding of measuring and layout using tape measures, calipers, and related tools.
Experience operating a forklift or willingness to obtain certification (asset).
High attention to detail with a focus on accuracy, quality, and material optimization.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
