Salary: $75,000 - $90,000 (Based on experience)
Job Type: PermanentOur client, a boutique law firm in Toronto, is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Civil Litigation Law Clerk to join their new team and work directly with clients and lawyers, assisting in all steps of the litigation process. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced legal environment.Key Responsibilities:- Collaborate with counsel, clients, and vendors to collect, review, and produce documents.
- Draft key legal documents, including Cost Outlines, Bills of Costs, Notices of Motion, and Affidavits.
- Assist in preparing Books of Authorities (BOAs), including case research, highlighting, and annotations.
- Coordinate logistics for examinations for discovery, trials, and hearings, both internally and externally.
- Liaise with Federal Court Registry staff to obtain necessary court documents.
- File court materials and serve documents on opposing parties as required.
- Prepare Excel charts and tables for matters involving damages and financial calculations.
- Organize and maintain client files, track key deadlines, and document case progress.
- Upload discovery materials to Relativity and maintain production logs.
- Manage a bring-forward system and keep pleadings indexes up to date.
- Perform administrative tasks as needed.Qualifications & Skills:- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also excelling in a team environment.
- 3-5+ years of experience working as a law clerk (civil litigation strongly preferred)Law Clerk certificate preferred.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage a high volume of files.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- High level of discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive legal matters.
- Experience with eDiscovery software and document databases (e.g., Relativity, Summation, Ringtail) is an asset.
- Proficiency in Adobe PDF and Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Familiarity with Soluno and iManage is an asset.
- Understanding of, or willingness to learn, the Federal Court Rules.Work Environment:- Hybrid 4 days onsite in Toronto.
- Hours are 8:30am-4:30pm or 9am-5pm Monday to Friday.
