Child Minder

, designing engaging activities that foster growth and inspire creativity in young hearts and minds!


Reporting to the Program Manager, our selected candidate will collaborate with program staff to create a secure and supportive environment where children can play and receive care while their parents participate in group activities. Responsibilities include preparing and arranging suitable equipment and activities for the children, serving snacks, assisting in various group tasks, and organizing activities that cater to the physical, emotional, intellectual, and social needs of the children. The role also requires maintaining awareness of child-related issues and community services, supporting parents in enhancing their child development knowledge and parenting skills through role modeling and sharing resources, fostering positive relationships with parents and caregivers, introducing immigrant and refugee newcomer parents to Canadian child-rearing practices.

Qualifications

Our ideal candidate should possess either an Early Childhood Care and Education Certificate or a minimum of two years of childminding experience with children aged birth to 6 years. Additionally, a current

Child Safe or level 1 First Aid Certificate

is required, with

Food Safe certification

and proficiency in a second language considered advantageous.


The successful candidate should embody a nonjudgmental, respectful, and supportive demeanor, demonstrating a positive attitude towards both children and parents. They must apply knowledge of child care principles effectively, creating a warm and nurturing environment that accommodates cultural and lifestyle diversity. Strong communication, problem-solving, planning, and organizational skills are essential, alongside the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a dynamic team. Maintaining confidentiality and adhering to ethical responsibilities, including the Duty to Report, are also critical aspects of the role.


The position requires a commitment of

3 hours per week, from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM, alternating weekly between Thursday (Week 1) and Friday (Week 2).


This role requires the incumbent to undergo a Police Information Check (PIC), and a Vulnerable Sector Check by the Ministry of Justice.
