Job Description

Aplin, one of Canada's Best Managed Companies, has partnered with a successful, longstanding, and reputable Saskatchewan-based organization to recruit a CFO to lead their diversified multi-business Canadian portfolio. This rare and dynamic opportunity provides the ability to complement the executive team and strategically manage accounting and finance optimization to ensure its growth and success through strategic initiatives.

Financial responsibilities of CFO:

  • Controllers for all companies (4) report to CFO
  • Risk assessment and advising of trends
  • Financial analysis of strategic ventures or consideration of strategies
  • Coordinating financial reports utilizing the current financial reports and KPIs
  • Coordinating budgeting and forecasting reporting, as well as all financial statement preparation and review
  • Cash flow analysis
  • Ensure proper internal control, rules, and regulations as to specific financial responsibilities within each of the companies
  • Work with financial bodies to ensure banking and capital requirements are reliably foreseen and met
  • Provide direction and advisory as an executive leadership team member during the company's meetings, planning processes, mergers and acquisitions, etc.
  • Assess, provide, and implement recommendations for process improvements for existing accounting and finance operations
  • Significant involvement with the Audit process
  • Ad hoc support for family trust and related work
  • Involvement with special projects as needed

Board-level Involvement:
  • Coordinates board activities and information circulation
  • Works with Chairman to execute quarterly and annual meetings
  • Secretary-Treasurer responsibilities
  • Coordinates board governance
  • Should have board governance certification
  • Reporting duties
Mergers and Acquisitions:
  • Responsible for financial analysis and transaction procurement
The Ideal Candidate will have:
  • Experience in overseeing accounting and financial management for multiple medium-sized companies
  • Manufacturing experience and interest is an asset
  • Strong practice in compiling, analyzing, and interpreting financial information and providing sound recommendations
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Relevant post-secondary education: Accounting degree with a designation (CA, CPA, CMA) Master's degree in business
  • A reputation for conducting business with integrity and efficiency, with a curious mindset, a winning attitude, and an effective work ethic
