About the Job

Reporting to the CEO, as an integral part of Vendasta’s Executive Leadership Team, you will manage a team of Finance and Business professionals at our head office in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. This is a unique opportunity for a data-driven Financial Executive with proven Operational experience to join a fast-paced SaaS organization. The chief financial officer position is accountable for the financial, fundraising and risk management operations of the company. These include partnering with the COO on the development of a financial and operational strategy, metrics tied to that strategy, and the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve company assets and report accurate financial results.

Responsibilities
The CFO will work cross-functionally with other executives and department heads to set strategic direction and operationally support the following initiatives:
Funding
  • Lead the company's fundraising strategy
  • Manage relationships with investors and creditors
  • Monitor capital markets and manage relationships with potential funding partners

Planning
  • Provide thoughtful leadership and influence executive level decision making through analytical insight into core business decisions such as prioritization of growth opportunities and even more importantly, cutting off unprofitable endeavors before they consume too many company resources
  • Assist in formulating the company's future direction and supporting tactical initiatives
  • Monitor and direct the implementation of strategic business plans
  • Provide thought leadership in Vendasta’s M&A strategy
  • Develop financial and tax strategies
  • Drive a long-range strategic planning process that includes a quarterly/annual budgeting and planning process
  • Report financial results to the board of directors
  • Communicate the company’s strategic direction, financial results, etc. to relevant audiences (ie: company updates, investor updates, board updates & materials, etc.)
Operations
  • Develop suitable headcount and budgets, to ensure investment is allocated optimally across all divisions. Create the financial discipline to deliver these budgets
  • Develop and implement a strong financial planning and analysis function to oversee monthly/quarterly budget vs. actual variance analysis, including the key SAAS metrics that tie back to financial goals
  • Manage the accounting, investor relations, legal, tax, and treasury departments
  • Oversee the company's transaction processing systems
  • Develop and enhance existing financial and operational strategies
  • Oversee the Company’s financial due diligence and integration execution with respect to M&A transactions
  • Monitor and manage the overall spending of the business, with an emphasis on negotiating best pricing from vendors and suppliers
  • Ensure that the audit process is managed smoothly and effectively by the finance team
Risk Management
  • Understand and mitigate key elements of the company's risk profile
  • Monitor all open legal issues involving the company, and legal issues affecting the industry
  • Construct and monitor reliable control systems
  • Maintain appropriate insurance coverage
  • Ensure that the company complies with all legal and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure that record keeping meets the requirements of auditors and government agencies
  • Report risk issues to the board of directors
  • Maintain relations with external auditors and investigate their findings and recommendations

Qualifications
  • BS in Accounting or Finance (MBA and CPA preferred)
  • 10+ years experience in a medium sized growth business
  • Prior experience as a CFO with a demonstrated track record of successfully scaling an organization of a similar size/stage
  • Demonstrated success in value creation
  • Ability to create and foster cross-functional networks and manage without authority. Effective leadership, influencing and communication skills. Managed finance teams of 20+
  • Has led multiple capital raises, $100 million+ equity financings and IPO transactions are a plus
  • Operated in multinational markets
  • Previous M&A experience would be an asset
  • Public market experience an asset
