The Chief Operating Engineer is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, service and repair of all equipment and process systems in the plant. The incumbent will be involved in equipment installation, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, equipment modifications and repairs. Operators need to show a high degree of motivation and initiative with a proven ability to positively work in a team setting.

What you'll do:

  • Accountable for the safety of our team! Must create a safe work environment ensuring all safety practices and procedures are followed;
  • Performs daily maintenance audits in the plant;
  • Responsible for uninterrupted service;
  • Monitor plant and equipment levels and proactively adjust to ensure output levels;
  • Correct operation of freshwater and wastewater when needed;
  • Set and establish a maintenance schedule for production equipment;
  • Provides strategic direction to direct reports and facilitates the technical development of the operating team;
  • Ensures ongoing development of a positive, empowered, self-motivated work environment;
  • Responsible for hiring, performance reviews, terminations, training and development, including ensuring that training needs are identified and that the expected results are realized;
  • Ensures employees adhere to established operating and maintenance standards, policies and procedures through regular audits of logs, reports and checklists;
  • Sponsors and facilitates change through recognizing, initiating, supporting and accepting responsibility for change management to ensure 'best practices' are utilized to support the business;
  • Anticipates and proactively identifies and solves the most unique and complex problems, often employing ground-breaking methods and a comprehensive understanding of the regulatory and business environment;
  • Operates within a complex day-to-day work environment with multiple competing priorities;
  • Complete branch opening procedure and ensures the boiler is powered up;
  • Ensures efficient operation of the piping schematic, electrical systems, pneumatic systems, building systems, electromechanical systems and controls;
  • Monitors energy consumption each month and considers conversation techniques for plant adoption.
  • Monitors maintenance area expense budget and expenditures;
  • Meet with Branch/General manager on a set schedule to review plans and results;
  • Works with Branch/General Manager and team to study, set and offer items in need of capital improvement or investment;
  • Provincial regulatory safety training in Canada;
  • Additional duties may be assigned from time to time as needed.
We are looking for individuals who are:
  • 4th class steam ticket
  • Experience with having performed maintenance in an industrial setting;
  • Proficiency with standard calculator ability to complete simple measurements;
  • Experience managing a maintenance staff in an industrial facility;
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to work within a fast-paced environment, yet willing and able to work effectively with ambiguous circumstances;
  • Demonstrated capability with competencies for the position;
  • Must have knowledge of motor controls, A/C inverters, frequency drives and hazardous material handling and disposal procedures along with hydraulic and pneumatic repair skills;
  • Must have knowledge and ability to read and understand electrical codes, electronic drawings, schematics, diagrams, blueprints and equipment manuals;
  • Knowledge and experience with PLC's and electromechanical systems;
