The Vancouver Convention Centre is hiring a Chief Engineer to be responsible for establishing best in class operational strategies ensuring efficient operations at this iconic venue in Vancouver.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Engineering and Maintenance, the Chief Engineer will oversee the day-to day operations of the Central Plant. This position is integral for maintaining the various building systems which enable the facility to operate and deliver a world class experience to our clients. The Chief Engineer is responsible for analyzing and troubleshooting problems as well as designing and implementing solutions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures compliance with Technical Safety BC codes at all times.
  • Manages the day to day operations of Central Plant and other equipment which fall under the BC Boiler and Pressure Vessel Regulations.
  • Manages preventative maintenance programs of HVAC, Plumbing, and fire systems to meet or exceed OEM/regulatory/safety requirements to ensure optimal efficiency and to prevent downtime.
  • Works with the Director in managing operating budget, capital expenditures, preventative maintenance, and energy conservation initiatives.
  • Develops business cases to secure funding for capital equipment renewals/replacement or new initiatives.
  • Develops Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) for Engineering Department and to ensure that staff are trained accordingly.
  • Develops guidelines, plans and regular checks to ensure safety in the workplace is adhered to as per WorkSafe BC standards.
  • Manages specialist contractors to ensure critical building control systems are correctly maintained and downtime is minimized.
  • Ensures that related service contracts and documentation including vendor third party liability insurance requirements are in place and maintained.
  • Ensures that all logs and records are kept and updated as per department and regulatory requirements
  • Works in conjunction with facilities managers to Performs Annual Building Inspections.
  • Develops physical plant and base building risk management/mitigation strategies.
  • Responds to and assists in the management of emergency events leading up to and including Emergency Operations Center (EOC) activations.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, AND COMPETENCIES:
  • Refrigeration Operator Certificate required.
  • 4th Class Power Engineer's Certificate of Competency is an asset.
  • Designation in Facilities Management, Building Technology, Project Management or an equivalent program designation from BOMA, IFMA or PMI etc are an asset.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience as a Power Engineer, preferably in a supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of building systems such as HVAC, Fire Safety, and Mechanical and Building Automation Systems.
