Students will learn about the historical underpinnings of organized crime in both the United States and Canada. Students will learn about the criminal activities, contemporary patterns, and emergent trends within North American organized crime groups. Students will also be exposed to the organizational hierarchy, rules and regulations, level of sophistication and law enforcement responses to organized crime in North America. Topics may include: an examination of the Five Families of New York, the Chicago Outfit, and the experience of organized crime in cities such as Montreal, Las Vegas, Philadelphia and Boston.Qualifications - Required: Master\'s DegreeQualifications - Other: MA in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or a cognate discipline (e.g. sociology) with a focus on crime or deviance. Work experience in the field is an asset, as is prior teaching experience. (MEd / EdD will not be considered to meet the minimum educational requirement).
