As a Court Liaison Officer, you are responsible for reviewing and processing charging packages and provide support in Provincial Traffic Court with officer court schedules and officer trial notifications. This position acts as an appointed Peace Officer in relation to swearing to court documentation with laying of charges on behalf of the Calgary Police Service (CPS). Primary duties include:

  • Review charging packages, ensure supporting evidence, and correct file and document deficiencies received from sworn CPS members and outside agencies in accordance with legislation and CPS Policy and Procedures.

  • Provide guidance with case files, documents, and court processes to the Service, outside agencies, Provincial Court, Provincial Crown Prosecutor\xe2\x80\x99s Office, Special Prosecutions, and Federal Court within legislated requirements.

  • Release of confidential information based on CPS Policy and Procedures and compile required documents for disclosure to the Crown.

  • Advanced knowledge of JOIN (Justice Online Information Network) to create dockets and with analysis of court proceedings. JOIN access and training is also provided to the Service in compliance with relevant policy and procedures.

  • Provide Provincial Traffic Court hearing officers and Provincial Traffic Crown Prosecutor with trial dates and provide officers with court notifications and call-offs.

Working Conditions : Exposure to graphic and disturbing details and materials and work/travel within CPS locations and Calgary Provincial Traffic Court.




Qualifications

  • A High School diploma or equivalency (e.g., GED) and a minimum of 3 years of experience working in a police, law enforcement, or court related environment.

  • Applicants must be eligible to obtain a Peace Officer appointment.

  • Advanced knowledge of JOIN and court processes are required.

  • Experience in using Sentry, CPIC (Canadian Police Information Centre), Content Server, Electronic Disclosure (File Management) are considered assets.

  • Success in this position entails strong communication skills, efficiency and thoroughness, focus on results, relationship building, service orientation, stress tolerance, team building and teamwork.

Pre-employment Requirements

  • An enhanced security clearance will be conducted.

  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.

Position Type: 1 Temporary (Up to 12 months)

Location: Hanover Building, 101 6 Avenue S.W.




Compensation: Pay Grade 6 $31.30 - $41.86 per hour

Days of Work: This position works a 5 day
work week with 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.




Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
