As the Senior Accountant, you are responsible for providing input and coordination of budget preparation, financial reporting, business analysis and internal controls as well as providing financial support to the Calgary Police Service (CPS). Primary duties include:


  • Ensure the integrity, timeliness and accuracy in the compiling, preparing, reconciling, analyzing and consolidating financial information. This includes involvement to month end, periodic and year end reporting and procedures.

  • Involvement in internal and external audit requirements during the year.

  • Participate in weekly and monthly meetings with various civilian managers and sworn senior officers from all departments within CPS to advise, consult and assist with operational decisions and potential outcomes.

  • Review actual operational expenses along with budgets, variances, trends and projections.

  • Provide end-to-end guidance with policies, processes and connection to financial outcomes for projects.

  • Conduct monthly and quarterly revenue reporting for court fines and externally funded projects as well as the financial management of inventories.

  • Review and develop quality assurance for integrity of reports, processes and internal CPS controls, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).





Qualifications

  • An accounting diploma from a post secondary institution, having a minimum of 13 courses recognized by the CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) program.

  • Further pursuance to obtain an undergraduate degree in fulfillment of enrollment and completion of the CPA designation program is ideal. Preference will be given to candidates who are in pursuance of this path.

  • A minimum of 3 years\xe2\x80\x99 financial experience preferably in a large organization involved with budgeting, variance analysis, along with monthly and year end reporting.
  • Knowledge
of current accounting standards (GAAP, PSAS) is essential.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) is required.

  • Experience with Peoplesoft (FSCM, HCM) is considered an asset.

  • Understanding of The City\xe2\x80\x99s procurement process and regulations is of benefit.

  • Success in this position requires effective communication skills (written and verbal), strong analytical thinking and analysis, change management, coaching and development, as well as efficiency and thoroughness. The ability to build strong relationships with a focus on results is vital.

Location: 5111 47 Street N.E.




Compensation: Pay Grade 9 $37.79 - 50.55 per hour

Days of Work: This position works a 5 day
work week with 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.




Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
