As an Assistant Physical Training Instructor (PTI) for the Calgary Police Service, you will assist the full time/Lead PTIs during recruit physical training sessions (PT), Recruitment and Selection outreach events, and Specialty Unit physical testing. The position will help with equipment set-up, clean-up, demonstrating exercise techniques, providing additional over-sight during the sessions to ensure recruits are performing exercises safely and effectively and assisting in the event of a medical incident. Assistant PTIs will be certified as A-PREP appraisers and be qualified to conduct A-PREP testing along with A-PREP Orientation sessions. Primary duties include:

Conduct the Alberta Physical Readiness Evaluation for Police (A-PREP) and Orientations. Work under the direction of the Lead PTI in an assistant or support role during recruit physical training sessions. Conduct and assist with Recruitment and Selection outreach events and initiatives. Help with occupational fitness testing (CPAR-TAC, K9, T-EMS). Assist with organizing, cleaning, and maintenance of weight rooms and equipment. Responsible for basic administrative duties.


Qualifications

A degree in Kinesiology or related field and a minimum of 1 year strength and conditioning instructional experience. Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CSEP-CEP) or American College of Sports Medicine Certified Exercise Physiologist (ACSM-EP) Certification is required. Standard First Aid and CPR/AED Certification is required. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and experience with online coaching platforms is required. Above-average level of fitness is also required. Preference will be given to candidates who possess a National Strength and Conditioning Association Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or equivalent certification. Previous experience in occupational strength and conditioning training for Law Enforcement, Fire or Military is considered an asset. Working Conditions:

Demonstrating physical training activities, some outside running in poor weather and moving heavy equipment is required.

Pre-employment Requirements

An enhanced security clearance will be conducted. Practical assessment of coaching competency. Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications. Education obtained from out of country must have or be able to obtain, an Education Credential Assessment (ECA) for confirmation of equivalent credentials.
