The Cafeteria Cook will prepare and serve daily nutritional snacks and meals to the students and employees at Biidaaban Kinoomaagegamik according to the healthy menu plan. At times the Cafeteria Cook will need to cater meetings in various Sagamok programs, and they may be needed to provide support to other nutritional programs when required.
They will participate in nutritional programming provided by the school that will help students and families in making healthy food choices, giving them the knowledge of the role of nutrition in maintaining health and improving school performance.
POSITION DUTIES:
Cafeteria Cook
Prepare and cook, culturally appropriate cafeteria menu inclusive of breakfasts and lunches for students and employees at Biidaaban Kinoomaagegamik.
Prepare dishes for students and employees with food allergies or intolerances.
Help develop practices and procedures to ensure food preparation practices are safe.
Assist with menu plan, determine size of food portions, estimate food requirements and costs, and monitor and order supplies.
Maintain inventory and records of food, supplies and equipment.
Maintain a clean and sanitized kitchen and work area.
Engage parents and other caregivers in food-related education.
Other related duties as assigned.
School Nutrition Program Support
In collaboration with First Nations Student Support Program (FNSSP) employees, the Cafeteria Cook will assist in developing classroom resources and activities to engage students in food sovereignty activities, including but not limited to:
Food growth and harvesting
Food preparation
Hygiene and safety practices
Home economics practices
Safe use of garden, kitchen, and other outdoor and cooking appliances
TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Must maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with policies approved by Sagamok Anishnawbek.
Must provide a negative Vulnerable Sector Check prior to commencing employment.
Able to use First Aid and CPR skills in case of a sudden emergency.
Non allergic to cleaning chemicals.
Must be able to work as a team member and at times with minimal supervision.
Valid driver's license and vehicle for on-the-job use.
Knowledge of and respect for Anishnawbek history, practices, teachings, language, values, and beliefs.
Subject to six months' probation.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum 1 to 3 years' experience in food handling and food preparation.
Valid Safe Food Handlers Certificate
Valid First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate.
Excellent customer service skills to maintain good rapport with students and employees.
Ability to analyze current inventory and develop daily prep lists to control food waste and spoilage.
Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
Knowledge of sanitation and safety guidelines, being thoroughly familiar with the causes of food poisoning and methods of prevention.
