George Chuvalo Neighbourhood Centre - 50 Sousa Mendes Street

Schedule:

37.5 hours/week, Tuesday to Saturday (some evenings/weekends as needed)

at the George Chuvalo Neighbourhood Centre, where you'll lead daily operations of the LOFT Kitchen Cafe -- a vibrant space for community-building, food innovation, and inclusive programming in Toronto's Junction Triangle.

In this role, you'll oversee the cafe, catering services, events, and retail offerings while mentoring a diverse team of seasonal and youth employees. This is a unique opportunity to use your hospitality experience to support a meaningful social enterprise with a focus on job training and community development.

Key Responsibilities



Operations & Service Delivery

Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of all food and beverage offerings at LOFT Design and maintain creative, inclusive cafe and catering menus, including developing teachable recipes Establish efficient systems for inventory management and purchasing supplies Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, cafe, pantry, and all intersecting physical spaces Monitor service quality and manage health and safety risks Ensure POS systems are well maintained and financial transactions are properly tracked

Training & Supervision

Supervise, train, and support a team of seasonal and youth staff, with a focus on skill development and inclusive mentorship Delegate tasks based on staff strengths and training needs Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and evaluation to support professional growth

Catering & Event Coordination

Coordinate external catering requests from inquiry to delivery, in consultation with your supervisor Integrate internal catering needs into the daily cafe workflow Ensure all catering services align with the social enterprise mission and quality standards

Outreach, Promotion & Community Engagement

Develop and manage LOFT's social media, website content, and promotional materials Represent the cafe at events and engage in outreach to promote LOFT's services and community impact Build and maintain relationships with local businesses, artists, and community stakeholders Recommend new initiatives or adjustments to existing offerings that grow revenue and respond to community needs

Collaboration & Organizational Participation

Support cross-departmental collaboration, especially within the George Chuvalo Neighbourhood Centre Contribute to agency-wide initiatives and perform other relevant duties as assigned

Qualifications



5+ years of professional cooking and baking experience 2+ years in a cafe, catering, or restaurant leadership role 2+ years of barista experience Strong organizational, communication, and team leadership skills A passion for supporting 2SLGBTQIA+ youth and individuals with employment barriers Experience with POS systems, catering logistics, and inventory management Social enterprise experience and a valid driver's license are assets

Pay: $45,000.00-$53,000.00 per year
