Job Summary The Business Unit Controller, under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), and as a key member of the Atlas Biotechnologies Inc. Senior Leadership team out of the Edmonton, AB office, is responsible for providing accounting, compliance, financial and analytical analysis. this position is open to a hybrid work model that includes remote and working in-house in an office environment and work regular hours; nevertheless, may be required to work evenings and on weekends, sometimes with short notice. Reports to: CFO
Core Competencies:

  • Collecting, storing, and processing information to be shared with stakeholders, including financial accounting and reporting; cost accounting; capital management; and tax strategy, planning and compliance.
  • Using knowledge of the organization and the organization\xe2\x80\x99s business environment to turn data into insight, including strategy, process and project management, and macroeconomic analysis.
  • Credibility and Accountability, keen business acumen, along with ability to optimally manage corporate resources.
  • Understanding of systems, processes and internal controls over financial information; along with, understanding financial systems and information needs of decision-makers.
  • Passion for accomplishing tasks and an appreciation for details. Continued belief in process improvement with the ability to analytically problem solve, strategically finding resolutions to difficult situations as they occur.
  • Strong knowledge of risk management activities, budgeting and forecasting, federal and provincial regulatory reporting requirements and IFRS.
  • Knowledge of taxation law, along with staff management and empowerment.

Role and Responsibilities
  • Adhere to the company\xe2\x80\x99s Standard Operating Procedures (\xe2\x80\x9cSOP\xe2\x80\x9d) to ensure efficiencies and accuracy in all financial and administrative activities;
  • Provide leadership in and work closely with the CFO, CEO, and other members of the Senior Leadership team by performing long-term financial planning and analysis aimed at identifying risks, opportunities, and options that will inform strategies to provide resources for the attainment of the company\xe2\x80\x99s business goals
  • Promote sound fiscal climate and encourage responsible stewardship of \xe2\x80\x9cvalue for money\xe2\x80\x99 for the proper utilization of resources
  • Ensure a reliable system of internal controls are in place to adequately safeguard the company\xe2\x80\x99s assets and provide with integrity accurate reporting on financial results
  • Clearly communicate financial information, plans, options to Senior Leadership to facilitate informed decision making
  • Develop and support strong external relationships with bankers, investment advisors, legal counsel, auditors and other providers of corporate services
  • Provide information, analysis and reports required and requested by the Senior Leaders
  • Direct the preparation of an annual budget, monthly forecasts (sales, operation)
  • Produce Monthly, Quarterly, and Annual Financial statements
  • Work with Operations, Sales, Logistics teams to optimize and manage working capital
  • Prepare quarterly inventory and account receivable reserve calculations
  • Update monthly gross margin forecasts
  • Provide leadership to the finance team and administration team
  • Abide by Atlas Growers policies, International Financial Reporting Standards (\xe2\x80\x9cIFRS\xe2\x80\x9d) and follow the Cannabis Act and its Regulations.

Qualifications:
  • Post Secondary in Business Administration: Masters in Business Administration or CPA designation required.
  • 7 to 10 years experience in a senior financial role, preference to individuals with public company, growth stage company and/or merger and acquisitions experience.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical, manufacturing and/or Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) facilities is considered an asset.
  • Experience with Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR & ED) tax credits is an asset.
  • IT knowledge and skills, including superior use of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrate necessary comprehension of the English language
