The Creative Destruction Lab-Vancouver (CDL-Vancouver) is housed at the University of British Columbia, supporting and contributing to the entire west coast innovation ecosystem in Canada and in the US.The Business Development Manager proactively identifies new partners or sources of funding for CDL-Vancouver, supporting the delivery of CDL programming and contributing to the success of CDL-Vancouver long-term vision, strategic plan, overall mission and direction.Organizational Status
Reports to the Associate Director, Partnerships.Work PerformedPartner Recruiting and ManagementProactively seeks out new partnership and funding opportunities, and closes new arrangements to support the mission of CDL.Researches, identifies, develops outreach strategy for recruitment and manages the day-to-day outreach to high priority partner leads on an individual basis throughout the year.Continuously expands CDL network and maintains ongoing relationships (e.g., CDL alum, national and international university research labs, BC Tech Association, accelerators, etc.) to promote the objectives and growth of CDL-Vancouver.Liaises with CDL corporate and government partners to ensure partner satisfaction and engagement with CDL ventures.Creates analytical tools and evaluation frameworks to improve partner engagement tracking and outcomes.Prepares financial reports and forecasts for use in partnership reporting and strategic planning.Working with the Associate Director on forecasting and goal setting, contributes to achieving CDL-Vancouver financial goals.Identifies, builds relationships and liaises with centers of innovation in Western Canadian and US Universities, venture capital funds, incubators & accelerators, and tech associations to build a strong pipeline of CDL partner leads and implements system for monitoring.Assists the Associate Director, Partnerships with the development of long-term strategy and strategic business plans and goals to attract partners to the program.Supports the Associate Director with due diligence and lead funnel management for prospective partners.Works with UBC Sauder Development and Alumni Engagement team on recruiting partner leads.Advises CDL partners on strategies to maximize program engagement.Supports with the planning of partner renewal strategy and outcomes.CDL OperationsReviews and reports on CDL-Vancouver KPIs. Provides advice to senior leadership to ensure that KPIs are being adhered to.Supports rollout of integrated communication strategy (social media, PR, etc.).Provides ad hoc event planning support to CDL-Vancouver Senior Project Manager.Contributes to the success of CDL-Vancouver long-term vision, strategic plan, overall mission and direction.Participates in the planning, organization and execution of high profile CDL events across multiple venues including critical partnership and marketing events.Attends all CDL-Vancouver Venture programming sessions and partner events in support of effective operations and stakeholder engagement.Performs other duties related to the qualifications and requirements of the position as required.Consequence of Error/JudgementCDL is a high priority and high-profile initiative for the UBC Sauder School of Business and UBC. Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of five years of related experience in an appropriate business specialization, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.- Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with onexe2x80x99s own- Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing onexe2x80x99s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusionPreferred QualificationsMaster of Business Administration is preferred.STEM degree/technology background is preferred.Significant experience working with startups, technology companies or venture capital.Strong analytical ability and understanding of business models and drivers of success in startups across several verticals.Experience analyzing and systematically evaluating ventures - proficiency with financial modeling, conducting market analysis, and strategic planning is an asset.Experience and confidence leading high performing teams and engaging with multiple stakeholders. Entrepreneurial and highly motivated with strong interest in startups and venture capital.Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to interact and build relationships with a diverse and challenging personalities with a high degree of tact is critical.Highly organized with strong project management experience.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Passion to consistently meet or exceed performance objectives.Strong, team-oriented work ethic with willingness to work independently and autonomously.
