JOB PURPOSE:

Kitaskinaw Education Authority (KEA) is seeking a Building Maintenance Assistant to support the upkeep and maintenance of school facilities. The ideal candidate will assist in ensuring a clean, safe, and functional environment for students, staff, and visitors. This role requires a proactive individual with experience in general maintenance, repairs, and custodial duties.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

General Maintenance & Repairs:
Assist in routine inspections and maintenance of school buildings, including classrooms, offices, and common areas.

Perform minor repairs to plumbing, electrical systems, heating/cooling units, and other mechanical equipment.

o

Respond promptly to maintenance requests and safety concerns.

o

Maintain and repair furniture, doors, windows, and flooring as needed.

Custodial & Facility Upkeep:
o

Ensure the cleanliness and sanitation of school facilities, including washrooms, hallways, and outdoor spaces.

o

Assist in floor care, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and waxing.

o

Monitor and restock cleaning supplies and maintenance equipment.

Groundskeeping & Outdoor Maintenance:
o

Maintain school grounds, including snow removal, lawn care, and landscaping.

o

Ensure walkways and entryways are clear and safe for students and staff.

o

Conduct seasonal maintenance tasks, such as salting sidewalks and preparing outdoor areas for changing weather conditions.

Health & Safety Compliance:
o

Assist in conducting safety inspections and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.

o

Report and address potential hazards to prevent accidents and injuries.

o

Support emergency response procedures, including fire safety and evacuation plans.

Equipment & Inventory Management:
o

Assist in maintaining an inventory of maintenance tools, cleaning supplies, and building materials.

o

Ensure all equipment is in good working condition and report any damages or malfunctions.

o

Assist in setting up and taking down equipment for school events and activities.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

Project Management: Ability to plan, organize, and execute complex projects, including setting goals, establishing timelines, and managing resources effectively.

Communication Skills: Clear and compelling written and verbal communication skills to convey information, provide feedback, and facilitate collaboration among diverse stakeholders.

?

Adaptability: Flexibility and resilience to adapt to changing circumstances, address unforeseen challenges, and adjust program activities to meet the evolving needs of students and stakeholders.

Safety and First Aid: Knowledge of safety protocols and procedures to ensure students' well-being and physical safety in sports and recreational activities, including maintaining first aid and CPR certification.

Technology Proficiency: Proficiency in using technology tools and platforms for communication, scheduling, and data management, such as email, Microsoft Office, and digital collaboration tools.

Knowledge of Cree culture, language, and traditions is a strong asset.

?

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS:

o

Demonstrates responsibility, reliability, and trustworthiness.

o

High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).

o

Experience in building maintenance, custodial work, or related fields.

o

Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and HVAC systems is an asset.

o

Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.

o

Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

o

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

o

Effective communication and time management skills.

o

Valid driver's license and reliable transportation, class 4 is an asset

o

Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends if needed.

o

Understanding of Indigenous culture and values is an asset.

o

Clear Criminal Record Check

Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.

o

Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

o

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

o

Effective communication and time management skills.

o

Must be able to work in a high-paced, structured environment with high foot traffic, particularly within school settings.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

o

Valid driver's license and reliable transportation, class 4 is an asset

o

Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends if needed.

o

Understanding of Indigenous culture and values is an asset.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Will be required to work at either of the Enoch Cree Nation KEA Buildings for an 8-hour shift in accordance to the ECN Human Resource Policy & Procedure Manual - Section C.
