The Kerrisdale Community Centre is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Behaviour Support Leader (BSL) to support campers with disabilities and/or challenging behaviours in our day camp programs. The BSL will work closely with the Day Camp Manager and Day Camp Leaders to ensure all campers can successfully participate and engage in camp activities.

Wage:
$24 - 25 per hour
Includes an additional 4% vacation pay

Key Responsibilities
Adapt and modify activities, communication methods, and group dynamics to support campers with diverse needs.
Provide alternative activities for small groups as necessary to promote engagement and inclusion.
Advocate for campers with disabilities and/or challenging behaviours, ensuring they are fully integrated into the camp community and have opportunities to build relationships with their peers.
Build and maintain strong relationships with parents/caregivers through regular and respectful communication, including:
Pre-camp welcome emails and social stories for campers.
Daily check-ins before and after camp to discuss camper progress and support needs.
Assist the Day Camp Manager in leading weekly staff meetings to assess camper needs and adjust programming.
Mentor and evaluate volunteers assisting with the camp program.
Assist in coordinating supplies and resources for campers requiring additional support.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
Completion of Grade 12 and some related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Minimum six months of part-time experience in recreation (preferably in a camp setting) within the past three years, with an emphasis on working with individuals with disabilities.
Diploma (completed or in progress) in Therapeutic Recreation, Support Services, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Experience supporting and mentoring volunteers in a recreation or camp setting.
Certifications:
Current and valid First Aid and CPR C (Applicants must attach a copy of their certification to their application).
Current and valid Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI) training, or willingness to obtain.
