POSITION SUMMARY:




The Behaviour Resource Consultant (BRC) works with children, families and staff to improve self-regulation and behaviour by designing and implementing a behaviour intervention and consultation program for children ages 2 - 14 and their families/caregivers. The BRC will support children who are facing self-regulation and/or behavioural challenges develop strong emotional and social skills. In support of this goal, the BRC will provide individual family and group consultation, consultation to Macaulay community programs, workshops for parents/caregivers and professional development workshops for staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES:



Design and implement behaviour intervention strategies for children. Provide evidence informed, tailored strategies for children struggling with specific behaviour and create personalized interventions for each child. Model and coach parents and staff to support children as they implement strategies. As part of the behaviour intervention: + observe children and recommend positive strength-based strategies that will help them recognize, regulate and control their behaviour
+ coach children to use these strategies
+ model, teach and coach parents/caregivers and staff so they can support the children implement the strategies
+ develop individual support plans for children attending the program that include strategies to a) assist them to recognize, regulate and control behaviour, b) support the child and their family to implement strategies, c) facilitate positive social connections for the child with other children, and d) coach parents/staff about how to support their children and implement strategies. Create group sessions to focus on peer interactions promoting social skills.
Collect data to track progress, assess the effectiveness of interventions, and identify areas that need further support. Ensure all documentation, including session notes, progress reports and assessments are up to date and compliant with agency policies. Work directly with children with complex developmental, social, emotional and behavioural challenges and their families/caregivers. This may involve one on one sessions with the child and parent/caregiver to offer strategies for managing and improving behavior at home and in social settings. Provide summary documentation in a timely manner, including communication updates with the family, and any recommendations or follow up with the individual family or staff in group settings Develops visual and resource materials to help families understand their child's progress, reinforce positive behaviours and implement strategies consistently at home. Provide parent workshops on a range of topics to help build confidence and develop new skills to handle challenging situations. Provide professional workshops for Macaulay staff to increase their effectiveness in working with children who have developmental, social and emotional challenges. Work in collaboration with staff and parents/caregivers. Ensure that all program related functions, including Individual Program Plans, data collection and reports are completed in a timely manner. Maintain appropriate up-to-date records and other administrative requirements in accordance with agency policies and recording guidelines. Participate in agency or community task forces, committees, and /or work groups as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:



BA in Psychology, Behavioural Sciences, or equivalent education and experience with a focus on child development and behaviour. ABA, IBI, or other behaviour certification. Minimum of 5 years of relevant behavior consultation experience with children 2 - 14 years old. Extensive experience working with children ages 2 - 14, addressing behaviour, social, developmental and emotional challenges and coaching their parent(s) or caregivers to implement positive, evidence informed strategies. Experience working with the early years sector preferred. A member in good standing with their respective College, if applicable. Sound knowledge of child development, theoretical models and interventions for working with children with extra support needs and their parents/caregivers. Strong observational skills to assess and monitor children's behaviour. Ability to plan, implement and monitor intervention strategies for children with moderate to severe extra support needs. Expertise in providing consultation to families and professional staff. Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of adult education and ability to provide workshop / training opportunities for adults with a broad range of literacy and parenting skills. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral. Strong interpersonal skills. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to exercise sound judgement. Excellent planning, organizational time management skills and demonstrated ability to prioritize. Ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams. Strong understanding of teamwork and the ability to work effectively and contribute to a high performing team. Ability to communicate effectively in more than one language a definite asset. Understanding of and ability to administer data collection. Computer literacy required including proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to work all shifts: day, evening and weekend hours. Valid Ontario Driver's license and access to a vehicle required. Acceptable Vulnerable Sector Police Reference Check.

SALARY:

Behaviour Resource Consultant Hourly Rate: starting at $35.94/hour ($35.94 - $39.92)
