Based in Sudbury, Ontario, Compass is the Lead Agency for child & youth mental health services for the districts of Sudbury and Manitoulin. Reporting to the Clinical Manager and providing the necessary support to ensure the inclusion of children with developmental, social, emotional, behavioural needs into community child care settings by providing training, support, co-ordination and delivery of services, observation, information and program planning.

This role will be carried out from our Little Current location.

RESPONSABILITIES:



Work with an assigned caseload of children and child care centres, the Resource Consultant will be expected to provide the following services:

Assist parents in carrying out any necessary programs at home. This may include linking to other services/community partners as appropriate. Advocate on behalf of the parent and on behalf of the child. Provide initial observation/assessment of the child's strengths and needs using a standardized tool when appropriate (for example, ASQ). Provide referrals to other services as deemed necessary. Set goals through Individual Service Plans based on observations, screeners, staff and parental input as well as observation. Monitor the child's progress in the program and at the home (where possible) and in the day care. Assist staff in the recognition of challenges and strengths in groups and in turn, the development or modification of group programs. Research and provide resource materials specific to individual or group program needs. Assist in identifying and obtaining specialized equipment as needed. Assess the physical environment and determine if any adaptations are required. Establish and maintain community partnerships in the local service area to ensure that collaboration occurs. Assist staff and support them in their role as part of a multi-disciplinary team Provide training, guidance and modelling for staff as required. Identify with parents, child care centre staff and other professionals and programs, common and realistic goals and objectives and develop strategies and programs to achieve these goals. Assist parents and child care centre staff in implementing and monitoring effective strategies and programs. Ensure open communication is maintained among all parties. Ensure programs are reviewed regularly as per Ministry requirements and are revised as necessary. Ensure appropriate health care plans are in place in conjunction with parents and medical practitioners. Attend case conferences and IPRC's etc. and provide case management function when required. Provide discharge planning as appropriate and transition support for the child, family and school. Facilitate Group Education and professional development opportunities (as appropriate) to the educators. Deliver life and social skills teaching to children, youth and caregivers in community, school and office settings. Ensure various service plans are complete and updated. Maintain an up-to-date child's file and database in compliance with the confidentiality policy. Participate and contribute at Agency staff meetings, Local Planning Networks and other community meetings as required. Provide community awareness and public education presentations and workshops and training sessions as required. Participate in ongoing evaluation of the program. Attend conferences, seminars and workshops when possible.

QUALIFICATIONS :



Successful completion of a diploma in Early Childhood Education and registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators or Child and Youth Worker Diploma. Experience working with families and children with special needs. Experience working with children with developmental disabilities, and parents of infants and young children. Ability to work flexible hours including daytime, evenings and weekends. Effective oral and written communication skills in both official languages is an asset. Possess a valid Ontario Class "G" driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle. Police Vulnerable Sector Check required.
