Job Summary

:


The

Bartender

is responsible for preparing and serving both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to guests, ensuring an exceptional bar experience. You will be expected to follow all Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC) regulations, uphold safety and health standards, and maintain a clean, organized bar area. This role requires excellent customer service skills, the ability to work efficiently under pressure, and a dedication to creating a positive and memorable experience for our guests.

Key Responsibilities

:

Guest Service

: Greet guests warmly and take drink orders in a friendly and professional manner. Provide drink recommendations based on guest preferences, including specialty cocktails, beer, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages. Ensure drinks are served according to company and AGLC standards for quality and portion size. Handle guest concerns or complaints promptly and courteously, ensuring guest satisfaction. Foster a welcoming atmosphere to encourage repeat business and create loyal patrons. Maintain compliance with AGLC Laws and Regulations

Drink Preparation and Service

: Prepare and serve alcoholic beverages (cocktails, beer, wine, spirits) and non-alcoholic drinks according to standard recipes and guest preferences. Ensure drinks are served with proper portioning, glassware, and presentation. Handle glassware properly, ensuring it is clean, free from cracks, and in good condition. Maintain consistency in drink quality and presentation at all times.

Bar Maintenance and Organization

: Keep the bar area clean and organized, including cleaning surfaces, glassware, and tools. Replenish liquor, beer, and non-alcoholic drink supplies as needed to ensure the bar is always fully stocked. Monitor inventory levels and communicate stock needs to the bar manager or supervisor. Regularly clean and sanitize high-touch areas such as drink prep stations, faucets, and handles.

Cash Handling and Transactions

: Take drink orders and process transactions accurately using a point-of-sale (POS) system. Handle cash and credit card transactions with precision, providing correct change and ensuring that all payments are processed accurately. Follow proper cash-out procedures at the end of the shift, ensuring all sales are documented and payments reconciled.

Health and Safety Compliance

: Follow Alberta's Food Safety Code and company policies to ensure all food and beverage items are stored and handled safely. Regularly clean and sanitize bar equipment, tools, and surfaces, especially those that are frequently touched. Ensure the bar adheres to health and safety regulations, maintaining a clean and hazard-free work environment.

Team Collaboration and Support

: Work closely with other bartenders, stewards, and kitchen staff to ensure smooth service and efficient drink preparation. Assist with setting up and breaking down the bar area, including stocking supplies, preparing garnishes, and organizing equipment. Contribute to a positive and team-oriented work environment, supporting colleagues to ensure the success of the bar operation. Help clearing on the floor with Stewards on occasion.

Upselling and Promotions

: Promote drink specials, new menu items, and upcoming events to guests. Upsell premium spirits, cocktails, or seasonal drinks to increase bar sales and enhance the guest experience. Engage with guests about happy hour promotions and special events to maximize revenue.

Qualifications

:

Previous experience as a bartender or in a similar customer service role is preferred. Strong knowledge of cocktails, beer, wine, and drink preparation. Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining attention to detail and quality. Excellent customer service and communication skills. Must have ProServe Certification from AGLC Ability to handle cash and use a point-of-sale (POS) system. Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain a clean and organized work environment. Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs. Flexible availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
