About Us



The Leamington Portuguese Community Club is a

non-profit organization

dedicated to preserving and celebrating Portuguese culture while serving our community through social events, dinners, fundraisers, and celebrations. We host weddings, banquets, cultural events, and private functions in our banquet hall and lounge.

We're looking for team members who understand that service industry professionals are often "on call" for the busiest times of the year, and who embrace the rewarding challenge of making events unforgettable.

What You'll Do



Stay up to date with all

Banquet Event Orders (BEOs)

to ensure accurate menu execution and timing for each event. Complete

daily inventory sheets

, monitor stock levels, and record all

waste logs

accurately to control food costs. Prepare and cook

short-order meals

for the on-site restaurant, ensuring speed, consistency, and presentation standards are met. Prepare and cook

large quantities of food

for major functions such as weddings, galas, and community events. Maintain

consistent food quality, flavor, and presentation

across all service types. Learn and faithfully reproduce

traditional Portuguese dishes

(e.g., bacalhau, bifanas, caldo verde, etc.) to maintain the club's cultural authenticity. Prepare and execute

common event and banquet dishes

, including buffet items, plated dinners, and hors d'oeuvres. Assist in

menu development

for both restaurant and banquet service, incorporating seasonal and culturally inspired items. Oversee

food preparation, cooking, and plating

to ensure all dishes meet established club standards. Supervise, train, and coordinate

kitchen staff and sous chefs

, ensuring teamwork and efficient production. Ensure all food is prepared safely, following

public health and food safety regulations

(HACCP standards). Maintain

cleanliness and organization

of all kitchen areas, equipment, and storage. Monitor and manage

portion control and food waste reduction

to maximize profitability. Order food, supplies, and ingredients based on upcoming events, restaurant needs, and inventory data. Collaborate with the

General Manager and Event Coordinator

to confirm event menus, timelines, and guest counts. Adapt recipes and portion sizes for both

small and large groups

without sacrificing quality or presentation. Inspect and maintain

kitchen equipment

for functionality, cleanliness, and safety compliance. Maintain

accurate prep lists and production schedules

to ensure timely service. Manage

allergies and special dietary requests

for guests in both restaurant and banquet settings. Contribute to a

positive, respectful kitchen environment

, leading by example with professionalism and communication. Ensure compliance with

all health, safety, and sanitation policies

set by the club and provincial standards. Participate in

menu tastings and staff training sessions

for new or seasonal dishes. Remain current on

culinary trends, plating techniques, and ingredient sourcing

to keep offerings fresh and appealing. Work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays based on club events and restaurant operations.

Who We're Looking For



Experience:

1-2 years cooking experience preferred

Skills:

Strong time management in high-volume, fast-paced environments Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills Knowledge of dinner etiquette Ability to stay calm and efficient during peak service times

Personality:

Friendly, professional, team-oriented, and able to adapt quickly to changing event needs

Requirements



Must be available evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by event schedule Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25-50 lbs Reliable transportation to and from the club
