Distinct in its inter-divisional status at the University, the Rotman Commerce program, offered jointly by the Rotman School of Management and the Faculty of Arts and Science, is one of Canada\xe2\x80\x99s leading undergraduate commerce programs, providing a balanced approach to business that is unique within undergraduate business education in Canada.
Reporting to Executive Director Advancement, Rotman and the Executive Director Advancement, Faculty of Arts and Science, the Associate Director, Development has responsibility for significant advancement activity including undertaking a comprehensive alumni relations initiative and revenue generation program for Rotman Commerce. The Associate Director, Development provides leadership in the development and implementation of fundraising for Rotman Commerce and directs, plans and implements an effective program to provide excellence in stewardship resulting in enhanced contact with individuals, corporations and foundations. The Associate Director will also assist with alumni activities, administration, and policy including the operation and support of volunteer committees related to overall advancement activities as it relates to Rotman Commerce and resources permitting.
A key function of the Associate Director, Development is to make a special effort to understand the priorities and culture of Rotman Commerce, and how these priorities and culture relate to development activities. The incumbent regularly attends and participates in Faculty advancement meetings, prospect strategy meetings for overall fundraising initiatives and donor meetings. In addition, the Associate Director will: provide quick and accurate research tailored to Rotman Commerce and its community so that quality proposals can be produced expeditiously; provide input into written materials related to the solicitation of donors with coordinated moves management and donor recognition systems; prepare reports for donor stewardship; and ensure integration with university-wide prospect and donor clearance and tracking systems.
The incumbent will develop relationships with alumni and donors through effective outreach activities, volunteer management and communications. The Associate Director will be responsible for communicating Rotman Commerce\xe2\x80\x99s goals and aspirations through effective programming, print and web-based communication, organizing and publicizing public events and fostering links with communities outside of Rotman Commerce.
The active involvement of key members, which includes the noted reporting relationship to the Executive Director Advancement, Rotman and Executive Director Advancement, Faculty of Arts and Science, the university community and volunteers, is essential to the overall success of this position.
Essential Qualifications:
I. EDUCATION:
University degree, preferably from U of T, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience. Certified Fundraising professional (C.F.R.E.) an asset.
II. EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of seven (7) years of progressively more senior experience in advancement, preferably in an educational institution. Experience in a post-secondary environment is an asset. Demonstrated success in securing major gifts of $50,000 or more from individuals, corporations and foundations as well as experience and success managing/leading staff and senior volunteers in a highly competitive fundraising environment.
III. SKILLS:
An ability to strategically manage multiple projects with competing deadlines and proven leadership skills with ability to manage and motivate staff and volunteers. Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal), presentation and interpersonal skills. Must possess initiative, tact, diplomacy, and creative problem-solving abilities. The ability to work in a results-oriented environment. Working knowledge of standard office software including MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint as well as a clear understanding of database principles. Public relations skills including delivery of presentations, proposals, and the ability to give speeches.
IV. OTHER:
Strong analytical, organizational skills. Awareness of and sensitivity to diversity including demonstrated experience working successfully with individuals diverse in age, culture, gender, sexual identity, and disabilities. Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. Must be diplomatic, tactful and politically savvy. Ability to work frequent evenings and weekends required.
