Job Title Associate Director, Application Development


















WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY? As part of RBC Capital Markets Digital Technology team, this role will help drive technical leadership and execution across a vast portfolio of client-facing web applications servicing RBC Capital Markets and RBC Investor and Treasury Services groups. This role oversees planning and execution activities of technical solutions within Digital roadmap while supporting existing portfolio of applications to ensure resiliency, compliance, and alignment with firm strategy. WHAT WILL YOU DO?

  • Lead a team of 7-10 technical resources (e.g. full stack, front-end, back-end resources) setting group and individual goals, provide coaching and mentoring to unlock the full potential of staff
  • Build strong partnerships across the organization to deliver first class technical solutions for Capital Markets and Investor & Treasury Services. Foster partner vs. service-provide mindset and build trust with the appropriate stakeholders
  • Define, scope, analyze and budget large scale development initiatives. Prioritize workload across Digital technology application development pillar to drive for impact
  • Work closely with Risk and Compliance teams ensuring strict alignment to regulatory and security requirements. Coach staff to be abreast of latest policy and requirements changes and ensure full compliance with standing orders
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities and drive project progress and benefits
  • Translate emerging business requirements to applications enablement initiatives that yield measurable business outcomes
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED? Must have:
  • Minimum 5 years of IT experience overseeing delivery of complex web applications
  • Minimum 2 years in a team lead or development lead capacity with experience coaching and mentoring junior staff or peers
  • Development background - hands on experience with various web technologies including but not limited to React, Node/Express, MS SQL Server, ElasticSearch and/or MongoDB, Microsoft .NET/C#
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. This is a business-facing role requiring strong ability to present and communicate effectively to various audiences
  • In-depth knowledge of the theories, practices, techniques for managing activities related to planning, design, management and implementation of software solutions and initiatives
Nice-to-have:
  • Familiar with various regulations affecting privacy, accessibility, compliance (e.g. CASL, AODA, etc.)
  • Experience driving technology upgrade programs such as migrating platforms to Cloud native technologies
  • Experience with Cloud technologies, containerization and associated best practices
