Job Description




Associate Counsel provides advice/counsel to various business units across multiple areas of business and regulatory law related to the company\xe2\x80\x99s legal rights and obligations, under supervision of and in collaboration with the company\xe2\x80\x99s General Counsel.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Providing legal advice/counsel in business-related areas of expertise (primarily business and regulatory law).


  • Researching, analyzing, and interpreting proposed and existing laws, statutes, and regulations, and advising business teams as to appropriate processes and practices in relation thereto.


  • Identifying, evaluating, and addressing issues of legal risk.


  • Reviewing and assessing existing company policies.


  • Structuring, drafting, negotiating and/or approving legal contracts, letters of agreement, policies and other documents related to a variety of trade, commercial, financial, regulatory, and operational matters.


  • May represent/advocate for the company in litigation, arbitration, mediation or other disputes with courts, government agencies, or other legal authorities.


  • Actively participates in Porter\xe2\x80\x99s Safety Management System (SMS) including reporting hazards and incidents encountered in daily operations; understand, comply with and promote the Company Safety Policy.


  • Liaising with external legal counsel on complex legal issues.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • JD or LLB from accredited Faculty of Law


  • Completed Articles with a business or full-service firm, private business or government agency


  • Superior communication, negotiation and analytical skills


  • Strong leadership skills and experience


  • Mandatory COVID-19 Vaccination
