Stewardship: We responsibly manage the resources entrusted to us.The Associate Legal Counsel position directly supports The Salvation Army (TSA) in pursuing its mission by advising on matters of law and policy. This role is full-time temporary for 12 months, and has the option to be a remote-work arrangement in Canada.Key responsibilities of this role include:

• Providing legal advice and guidance to senior Salvation Army officers and employees
• Assisting with the resolution of a wide range of legal disputes
• Working with individual centres/facilities, divisions and departments to identify, analyze and initiate appropriate action on legal issues
• Drafting and reviewing agreements, contracts and a wide range of other legal documentation
• Tracking legislation and litigation, assessing future trends and working to ensure compliance with new legislation in areas of responsibility
• Working with TSA senior leaders to assist in developing policies and procedures
• Assisting in procuring outside legal counsel to resolve legal problems and disputes, and to devise and implement legal strategies
• Developing and delivering training on legal topics

Minimum QualificationsThis role requires a person who is qualified to practice law as a lawyer in the Province of Ontario.Preferred Skills & Capabilities

• Adaptive legal skills and capability of responding to a broad range of legal challenges both proactively and reactively
• Negotiating skills necessary to resolve legal disputes in a manner that is both fiscally responsible and fully in keeping with TSA mission and values
• Exceptional verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work in a demanding, team-oriented environment
• Effective organizational and time management skills
