Unit 4D2/D3 is the Pediatric Trauma and Inpatient Surgery unit supporting the Stollery Children\'s Hospital as a Level 1 Trauma site. Specialized surgical and trauma services are provided to patients and their families from central and Northern Alberta as well as across western Canada. The highly skilled team on 4D2/D3 works collaboratively with all areas of the Stollery Children\'s Hospital to ensure the provision of the highest quality patient care while incorporating AHS core values into their daily interactions. The Assistant Head Nurse (AHN) is a leadership position responsible for the coordination and delivery of quality care from the various points of entry into 4D including: Emergency department, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Burn Unit, Post Anesthetic Care Unit and other areas of the Stollery. An integral member of the leadership team, the AHN works collaboratively with the Unit Manager and other AHN\'s to monitor staffing levels, problem solve clinical issues, and communicates with patients, families and the public to build positive relationships. The AHN will also be involved in direct patient care to support patient flow and actively involved in quality improvement initiatives. The AHN is an integral position within the leadership team and as such, the successful encumbent (with support and guidance from the manager) will be responsible for developing their leadership knowledge and skills through ongoing professional development courses. The AHN will recognizes the value and integrate the principles of the Family Centered Care philosophy into their decision making.

As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
