Your Opportunity:

The Assistant Head Nurse in Home Care is a program wide position is responsible for the primary triage of client unmet need across the Calgary Zone. Assignments can include urban and rural clients, collaborating with teams located on the same or different site as the coordinator. Reporting to the Area Manager, key responsibilities include facilitating client referrals and managing staff day to day workload flow/assignments, and assignments as needed. The Assistant Head Nurse is a key clinical in-scope leadership position providing direction and guidance to multi-disciplinary clinical staff, clients and their families. Expert understanding and knowledge of Home Care program, strong collaborative skills and the ability to liaise with Transition Services, other Home Care Assistant Head Nurses and Community Care Coordinators to facilitate timely care to clients is required. The Assistant Head Nurse will communicate any appropriate clinical concerns and or staffing issues to the most appropriate management team either operational manager or assigned workload manager.

Description:

As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum 5 years current nursing experience with 5 years in a Home Care and / or Community setting required. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Strong understanding of McMaster Case Management Model of Care and community service delivery. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Ability to monitor financial accountabilities. Demonstrated critical thinking and decision making skills. Demonstrated assessment skills. Demonstrates ability to work with electronic methods of communication including electronic health record(s), MS office suite, MS Teams, computer and multi-line telephone/fax. Preferred Qualifications:

Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred; however, skills and experience relevant to nursing practice specifically within the Home Care community sector will be considered.
