Key Responsibilities:



Supervision of Asphalt Paving Operations:



Oversee all phases of asphalt paving work, including surface preparation, asphalt mix delivery, paving, compaction, and finishing. Ensure the proper application of asphalt materials, including mix design, quality control, and correct laying procedures, in line with project specifications and industry standards. Manage and supervise the paving crews, ensuring they are performing work safely and efficiently, while meeting project deadlines. Coordinate with the project management team to ensure that work is completed according to the overall project schedule.

Crew Leadership and Coordination:



Supervise, mentor, and train paving crews, ensuring that they understand their roles, safety procedures, polices, quality standards, and project specifications. Coordinate with Human Resources on a variety of employee related topics/issues (i.e., recruitment, terminations, training, etc.), including assisting in the interviewing and hiring process of paving employees Foster a positive, collaborative work environment that promotes teamwork and communication across all levels.

Quality Control and Compliance:



Ensure the asphalt paving work is performed to the highest standards of quality, including correct mix temperature, proper compaction, smoothness, and adequate coverage. Conduct regular inspections of work to monitor progress and identify any issues or non-conformities that need to be addressed. Ensure compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements, including any necessary testing and documentation. Work closely with the Project Manager to resolve any quality concerns and implement corrective actions as needed.

Safety and Environmental Management:



Promote a culture of safety and ensure all workers follow proper safety practices, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and comply with all regulations. Conduct regular safety meetings, toolbox talks, and on-site inspections to ensure all safety protocols are adhered to.

Equipment and Material Management:



Coordinate the use, maintenance, and repair of paving equipment, ensuring that they are in good working condition and operated efficiently. Monitor the supply and usage of asphalt and aggregate materials, ensuring that the correct materials are available and used according to specifications.

Communication and Reporting:



Maintain effective communication with the Project Manager, other superintendents, and the project team to ensure alignment on project schedules, progress, and challenges. Provide regular updates on the status of asphalt paving operations, including progress, challenges, and any issues impacting the project schedule or budget. Complete and submit daily reports, including crew activities, material usage, equipment status, and any deviations from the project plan.

Scheduling and Coordination:



Work with the Project Manager and other superintendents to develop and maintain a detailed schedule for asphalt paving activities. Coordinate paving operations with other trades and work activities, ensuring that asphalt paving is completed according to the project timeline and without conflicts with other work being done on-site.

Cost Control and Budget Management:



Monitor the costs associated with asphalt paving operations, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors, ensuring that the work is completed within the budget. Assist in tracking costs and implementing cost-control measures to ensure the project stays on track financially.

Qualifications:



Minimum of 5 years of experience in asphalt paving operations, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role.

Must

posses a valid Class 5 Driver's Licence with a cleandriver's abstract Proven experience in managing paving crews, equipment, and materials to complete projects on time and within budget. Knowledge of industry standards, paving techniques, and best practices. Experience with operation of Paver and Screed; preferred*
Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide crews effectively. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate with various stakeholders. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications. Proficiency in construction management software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
