Job Summary
Reporting to the Manager of Communications, the Communications Officer will play a key role in developing and implementing internal and external communication programs to foster and maintain authentic, mutually beneficial relationships between the board, schools and our communities.
Key Responsibilities

As the Communications Officer, your responsibilities will include, but not limited to, the research and development of new strategic communications plans to support Board initiatives and goals; implementation of communications plans/programs; development of communications materials; media and stakeholder relations, including media monitoring and content development; support for diversity and inclusion communications plans; social media planning; plan and coordinate special events; communication support and strategic counsel to senior administration, trustees, and to school and Board department staff as needed, including urgent/unexpected projects and announcements; research and write concise, clear content using a wide variety of communication tools. Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Public Relations or Communications or equivalent related education and directly related experience
  • Five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in progressively responsible positions
  • Outstanding writing and strategic communication planning skills
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Suite, SharePoint, PowerPoint and other web development software
  • Experience in media relations, issues management, special events and print production
  • Knowledge of public relations practices and principles
  • Knowledge of Ministry of Education and Board policies, procedures and regulations
  • Ability to work under high pressure and tight timelines
  • Demonstrated commitment to working in a diverse school community and/or work environment

  • Accreditation in Public Relations (APR)
  • Accredited Business Communicator (ABC)
  • Project Management Professional (PMP)
