Position Summary

Reporting to the Aquatic Supervisor and Aquatic Coordinator, Aquatic Masters Coaches are required to create and conduct safe and enjoyable swim practices/workouts/sets/drills along with providing stroke correction to participants of different levels (Beginner and Intermediate/Advanced) to reach their individual full potential ensuring a fosters a learning atmosphere which values sportsmanship, fitness and self-esteem. The Aquatic Masters Coach is a former or current competitive swimmer with prior coaching experience. Candidates must have knowledge of best practices in swimming including training regimens, stroke and turn techniques as well as have effective communication skills to be able to implement that knowledge to inspire and coach swimmers.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, execute, coach and supervise challenging swim practices/workouts/sets.
  • Lead specific drills according to prepared workout plans.
  • Inspire and coach swimmers.
  • Provide stroke correction/swim techniques to participants of different levels in a positive manner to reach their individual full potential.
  • Enhance swimming skills and development of all participants.
  • Maintain program safety through the use of formations.
  • Educate all swimmers on pool rules and lane swim etiquette.
  • Foster a learning atmosphere which values sportsmanship, fitness and self-esteem.
  • Respond to inquiries, resolve problems, and perform associated public education duties.
  • Wear the assigned uniform at all times while on duty.
  • Respond to all emergencies and alerts the Aquatic Lifeguard and Aquatic Deck Supervisor as required in accordance with training.
  • Complete accident/incident reports as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
  • NCCP Level 1 Coaching Certification (Fundamentals Coach Certification - Swimming 101)
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience coaching.
  • Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard and Standard 1st Aid and CPR C certification would be an asset.
  • Attend all staff trainings/meetings as required.
Required Skills/Knowledge
  • Effective communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of best practices in competitive swimming including training regimens, stroke and turn techniques.
  • Former or current competitive swimmer with some prior coaching experience.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Be familiar with the City of Richmond Hill Aquatic emergency procedures/aquatic guidelines.
  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector security clearance.
  • Demonstrates good judgment and makes sound decisions

  • Proven written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate with honesty, openness, respect, and trust
