About Arctic Canadian Diamond Company Arctic Canadian Diamond Company (Arctic) is a Canadian mining company and a significant producer and supplier of premium rough diamond assortments to the global market. The company owns and operates the Ekati Diamond Mine. The company also holds a controlling interest in the Lac de Gras Diamond Project. Position Overview Reporting to the Superintendent – Environment and working a two weeks on/two weeks off schedule at the Ekati Diamond Mine (flying from Calgary or Yellowknife), the Advisor Geology and Geochemistry is responsible for leading the environmental compliance and monitoring programs for water supply and waste, and air quality at the Ekati Diamond Mine (e.g., Surveillance Network Program, Seepage and MDMER, Air Quality Monitoring Program). Duties include managing technical work and providing regulatory, permitting, and technical advice.
Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, evaluation, and refinement of compliance and monitoring programs in accordance with regulatory requirements (e.g., Water Licence conditions, MDMER), business objectives, stakeholder engagement, and Arctic’s Sustainable Development Policy;
  • Ensure compliance and monitoring programs conform to short- and long-term program requirements and goals;
  • Manage technical consultants, including the development and execution of field and office-based scopes of work;
  • Support field and office-based work associated with compliance and monitoring for air quality, water supply and waste (including seepage);
  • Review consultant developed technical reports on compliance and monitoring programs, water quality modelling, and special studies;
  • Manage and report on project deadlines, completion, and budgets;
  • Support mining operations through the provision of technical and regulatory guidance;
  • Support permitting of new developments and changes to existing developments;
  • Develop and maintain work procedures, health and safety procedures, and risk assessments for compliance and monitoring programs;
  • Ensure effective community and regulatory engagement on compliance and monitoring programs;
  • Participate in planning for water supply and mine waste movement at the mine; and
  • Timely review and submission of regulatory reports and response to stakeholder comments (e.g., Wastewater and Processed Kimberlite Management Plan).

Education/Experience
  • Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) or Engineering (B.Eng.).
  • Five years of directly related technical and/or project execution experience.
  • Knowledge of regulations, compliance monitoring, and associated analytical techniques.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience working in the mining industry, experience working in northern Canada, an understanding of the northern regulatory environment, experience with regulatory compliance programs, and experience with the Metal and Diamond Mining Effluent Regulations.
The successful candidate will have strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to prioritize competing demands and effectively manage a wide variety of activities while meeting established deadlines. The successful candidate will be able to work independently on projects from conception to completion and to work collaboratively and interact respectfully with people from internal departments and external organizations.
