The Advisor, Field Health & Safety will be responsible for providing safety leadership, coaching, guidance and mentoring to managers, supervisors, field employees and contractors with respect to Health and Safety requirements. The position impacts compliance and assurance activities of health and safety related policies, processes, and procedures. The position will also be responsible for guiding the implementation, maintenance, and improvement of the Health & Safety Management System (HSMS).

Additional responsibilities of the role include conducting site visits, incident investigations, driving continual safety performance improvement, conducting inspections and audits, reporting findings and monitoring completion of the identified improvement opportunities.

  • Partner with operations and office personnel in implementing and complying with Health and Safety management programs
  • Drive health and safety performance through collaboration with business partners
  • Coach business partners on HSEQ systems, to advance ATCO\'s Health and Safety culture
  • Act as an subject matter expert to internal clients regarding compliance with applicable Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations
  • Assure and advise on the implementation and effectiveness of ATCO HS procedures
  • Monitor the business to ensure the compliance of our policies and programs with applicable legislation and industry best practice
  • Subject matter expert on ATCO\'s Health Safety Management System to advance the understanding of, and compliance to, Health and Safety policies and procedures
  • Conduct regular site visits for assigned areas
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, to assure the effectiveness of ATCO Contractor Health and Safety Management program
  • Provide mentorship and backup to other Health and Safety Team members
  • Steward the Incident Management process
  • Provide governance of incidents entered in the ATCO Information Management System (IMS)
  • Drive continuous improvement through the creation of action plans and procedures updates
  • Act as Incident Investigation lead and ATCO liaison, between ATCO and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), for high servility incident investigations
  • Participate in internal and external audits
  • Conduct worksite observations and participate in formal planned inspections
  • Deliver services to support ATCO Project Health and Safety activities
  • Steward ATCO Worksite Joint Health and Safety Committees
  • Facilitate Industrial Hygiene activities (respirator fit testing, noise management & hearing conservation programs)
  • Member of Emergency Management and Business Continuity program activities
  • Other assigned Health and Safety responsibilities
Qualifications:
  • Occupational Health and Safety Certificate, Diploma or Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution
  • Professional designation as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional or Technician (CRSP/CRST) or Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC) or willing to obtain certification, within a defined period of time is required
  • Minimum 5 years of industry (Utilities or related industry) experience in a safety-related role
  • Knowledge of OHS Act/Regulations/Code, CSA Standards, other legislative requirements, applicable federal, provincial, and municipal regulations/legislation, industry standards
  • Experience with workplace inspection and job hazard analysis
  • Root cause analysis experience considered an asset i.e., Taproot\xc2\xae, DNV
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite
  • Proven ability to establish strong collaborative working relationships
  • Ability to influence and collaborate with management, staff, and contractors to achieve improved safety behaviors in a non-confrontational manner
  • Perform on call duties and overnight stays required
  • Valid Alberta driver\'s license (Class 5)
