What we offer

The Accounts Payable Manager is a key member of the Canada Central Finance team and leads the Accounts Payable (AP) function. This individual ensures that accounts payable processing, reporting, vendor relationships and internal business partnerships are conducted with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency. In addition, this role will drive process improvement and implement best practices to develop an AP Centre of Excellence for our Canadian organization. As we look to increase automation and improve the efficiency of our accounts payable processes, this role will play a critical role in the implementation of upcoming projects.

Reporting to the VP, Controller and leading a team of 12, responsibilities for the AP Manager include but are not limited to:

What you\'ll do

  • Own the AP function end to end, including processing and payment of invoices, intercompany invoices, employee expense reports, and credit cards; ensure all deadlines and customer service levels are met
  • Provide leadership, coaching and direction towards building a high performing team, including developing an optimal structure to support an efficient and effective AP function
  • Continuously review processes for inefficiencies and implement best practices to streamline the accounts payable function across all divisions
  • Leverage automation within our current systems and play a leading role in AP-related system implementations
  • Develop regular AP reporting and benchmarking metrics including cycle time, aging, discounts taken, etc.
  • Ensure data files for cheques and online electronic payments are produced timely for release on banking portals
  • Build and maintain good relationships with external vendors, trades and all other external and internal parties; foster and develop strategic business partnerships with functional and departmental leaders
  • Support the month end process by adhering to all cut off dates and completing AP account reconciliations
  • Support the quarterly and annual financial statement audit process, as well as CRA and other audits as requested
  • Ensure all controls and procedures are documented, communicated and complied to by the team
What you bring
  • Minimum 5 years of experience, including at least 3 years of experience leading large AP teams
  • Post-secondary degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Proven ability to lead a centralized AP team serving operations throughout Canada
  • Intermediate Excel skills including use of formulas, pivot tables, etc.
  • Ability to learn new software packages; experience with JD Edwards is an asset
  • Experience leading function providing AP as a service or experience with systems implementation is a definite asset
  • Results oriented, with strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrates the highest level of ethics and personal integrity
