Our client, a leading Canadian transportation and Logistics company is looking for an Accounting Manager to join their team. This role reports to the Corporate Controller.
Responsibilities:
Accounting and reporting of multiple divisions in 4 legal entities
Controlling input to the month-end process (closing entries, accruals, etc.) and ensuring its accuracy and reasonability
Accounting for uninsured claims across divisions
Preparing AFSA and AFDA schedules
Calculating management fees between LPs and ULCs, plus intercompany accounting
Managing reports via FRX/Management Reporter
Preparation, review, approval and posting of journal entries
Accounting for fixed assets including capital leases, equipment loans, operating leases, full service leases and rentals
Preparing and checking monthly balance sheet account reconciliations
Generating monthly reports and analyzing financial reports to ensure their relevance and reliability.
Identifying and reporting unusual and out-of-period items and preparing normalization schedules
Assisting with year-end audit and tax audits as applicable
Maintaining an open line of communication with all organizational functions in a professional, respectful and courteous manner
Training divisions on accounting-related functions to facilitate month close
Participation in cross-training initiatives
Participation in accounting and cross-functional projects to support corporate objectives
Other duties as requested
Qualifications:
CPA
University business degree
IFRS 16 (equipment and facilities) and IFRS 36 experience, an asset
Exposure to a broad variety of industries or working within a multi-unit business environment.
Experience managing a multi-functional team while also assuming hands on accounting and finance role
Consistently develops practical procedures and controls and completes tasks through to a conclusion
Advanced Excel skills is a must and experience with Great Plains/Microsoft Dynamics, Management Reporter are required.
Possess sound knowledge of activities and principles of business and understand business practices and trends in the industry
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
