We are hiring a Full?time, Permanent Accounting Assistant to join our team in Edmonton, Alberta. This role is integral to the accounting department and the company as a whole. This role is ideal for someone who is technically strong, comfortable working autonomously, and eager to contribute across a variety of accounting activities.
While this position will not be responsible for bank reconciliations, bank transactions, or remittances as part of its core duties, the successful candidate will receive training on these tasks to provide backup support to our Accounts Receivable team.
A CPA designation is an asset but not required.
What You'll Do
Process vendor invoices and perform preliminary review of AP invoices and PCS?issued PO's prior to Accounting Manager approval.
Issue, monitor, and maintain purchase orders for vendors and subcontractors, including monthly reconciliation of related invoices.
Post and process all receipts and incoming remittances and provide billable material information to Accounts Receivable.
Support full?cycle collections activities, including AR aging reporting and securing payment arrangements.
Prepare bi?weekly cheque and EFT runs and complete final review and posting of employee reimbursements.
Update and maintain multiple tracking spreadsheets, project reports, and monthly ad?hoc reporting requirements.
Prepare project balance reports, weekly forecasting for key clients, and support project costing analytics.
Assist with project closeout procedures and reconciliation of LEMS submissions.
Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statement preparation, including accruals and adjustments.
Attend review meetings with onsite personnel and communicate directly with vendors and internal staff to resolve issues.
Cross?train in Accounts Receivable and Asset Management and provide support as needed.
Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to all company, Accounting, and HSE policies and procedures, performing additional assignments as required.
What We're Looking For
Education & Experience
Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
CPA or CPA?track is an asset but not required
Previous experience in an accounting or finance support role is preferred
Technical Skills
Proficiency in Excel (basic to intermediate required; advanced skills are an asset)
Strong understanding of accounting principles
Comfortable learning new systems, tools, and processes
Personal Attributes
Independent, self?directed, and technically strong
Curious and eager to learn all aspects of the accounting function
Direct yet friendly communicator who is comfortable picking up the phone
Confident interacting with vendors, colleagues, and leadership
