Job Description

:
We are looking for a detail-oriented Accounting Assistant to join our team on a contract basis in Grimsby, Ontario. This role is ideal for someone with foundational accounting experience who is eager to further develop their skills in the utilities/infrastructure industry. The Accounting Assistant will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, performing reconciliations, and supporting monthly and year-end accounting processes.
Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and post journal entries, including recurring entries, to ensure accurate financial records.
  • Generate cash flow reports and reconcile them with the general ledger.
  • Record and manage all bank transactions to maintain up-to-date records.
  • Perform project closures for internal and customer-related activities.
  • Track fixed assets and create detailed depreciation schedules.
  • Complete monthly reconciliations for general ledger accounts, including cash, accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory, accruals, deferrals, revenues, expenses, and work orders.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements and management reports.
  • Investigate discrepancies in accounting records and create audit-ready working papers.
  • Take on additional accounting tasks such as month-end and year-end activities to support departmental operations.
  • Contribute to special projects or other duties as assigned to ensure smooth financial processes.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience, with a willingness to learn and grow.
  • Strong educational background in accounting or finance.
  • Proficiency with accounting software systems and Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge of key accounting functions, including accounts payable, reconciliations, and journal entries.
  • Ability to process payments and manage daily cash flow effectively.
  • Familiarity with credit, collections, debits, and other financial processes.
  • Strong analytical skills to investigate discrepancies and ensure accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
