Accounting Assistant
Location: Corner Brook Main Office
Reports To
This Accounting Assistant reports to the Chief Financial Officer.
Job Overview
Will be responsible for completion of accounting tasks as required.
Responsibilities and Duties
Below are the key components of the position, but not limited to:
Keep financial records and records of accounts.
Verify the procedures used for recording financial transactions.
Establish, maintain, and balance various accounts using Excel and computerized bookkeeping system Great Plans, A-line Program and others as required.
Post journal entries, including invoices, Bank transfers and Inter-company Wire Transfers, Post Recurring journal entries, maintain Average Exchange Rate.
Reconcile accounts, including vendor accounts, Inter-Company reconciliation, Bank and Petty Cash reconciliations.
Calculate and prepare information for commission and rebate calculations.
Complete and submit tax remittance forms and other government documents.
Prepare tax returns, including HST & QST taxes, Mi Use tax and perform other personal bookkeeping services.
Keep documents in proper form and folders, sort, and group them, scan and save in proper folders in computer.
Maintain Inventory receivers (Receiving & Enter/Match, Post Invoices and Bank Transfers for inventory, email Payment Confirmations, save invoices in proper places and folders, fill out inventory reports, including Purchase Orders Outstanding Report, Payment Report etc.
Prepare other statistical, financial, and accounting reports, including Stat Canada Trade Survey.
Year-end processes, such as preparation of T2200 forms.
Assist with bi-weekly payroll and Human Resources functions
Other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Completion/ near completion of a college program in accounting, bookkeeping or related field (or enrollment in a recognized professional accounting program (e.g., Chartered Professional Accountant) or courses in accounting or bookkeeping combined with several years of experience as a financial or accounting clerk are required.
2+ years experience as accountant technician or assistant.
Experience with payroll and human resources will be considered an asset
