Reference # HL-18276Research Nova Scotia (RNS) supports, organizes, and coordinates research that benefits Nova Scotians, including projects, infrastructure, and people. Taking a missions-oriented approach to their mandate, they start with what they want to accomplish for Nova Scotia and assemble the tools, teams, and resources needed to achieve it. We are thrilled to partner with RNS as we look to bring an Accountant to their team located in Downtown Halifa, NS.The Accountant is responsible for supporting all aspects of the finance department for RNS. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Accountant is a key member of the finance team who will interact with institutions, researchers and vendors to ensure excellence in the finance function at RNS.Responsibilities will include:

  • Assist with month end journal entries and reporting.
  • Prepare monthly investment reporting and balancing.
  • Process receivables, invoicing and collections.
  • Manage accounts payable and grants payable activities.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards and grant funding accounts.
  • Prepare and submit CRA filings, HST and Public Service Bodies Rebate returns.
  • Process payroll and coordinate benefit plans.
  • Assist CFO with year-end audit requirements.
  • Maintain files and financial records.
  • Track and report on employee vacation and sick days.
  • Support CFO with forecasting.
  • Assist CFO with general analysis and reporting.
The ideal candidate will possess:
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in similar role.
  • Post secondary diploma or bachelor\'s degree.
  • Knowledge of Ceridian payroll system considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of QuickBooks online considered an asset.
  • Candidate must be well versed in the Office 365 suite of programs.
  • Strong Excel skills are a must.
