Job Description

Robert Half is looking to fill the role of an entry-level Accountant in the Insurance industry. Your duties in this position will include entering data, reviewing financial statements, and creating and manipulating Excel spreadsheets. You will report to the Accounting Manager of a dynamic team and be offered the potential for career growth. If you have an aptitude for Excel, a positive attitude, and a desire to work in an entry-level accounting position, then this position could be the perfect fit. For this long-term contract / temporary position, you should be willing to work in Brampton, Ontario.

Your responsibilities

- Maintains financial records for subsidiary companies by analyzing balance sheets and general ledger accounts.
- Reconciles general and subsidiary bank accounts by gathering and balancing information.
- Provides financial status information by preparing special reports, completing special projects.
- Corrects errors by posting adjusting journal entries.
- Maintains general ledger accounts by reconciling accounts receivable detail and control accounts; adjusting entries for amortizations prepaids; analyzing and reconciling retainage and accounts payable ledgers; preparing fixed asset depreciation and accruals.
- Secures financial information by completing database backups, keeping information confidential.
- Maintains accounting controls by following policies and procedures, complying with federal, state, and local financial legal requirements.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications.
- Accomplishes accounting and organization mission by completing related results as needed.

- 2+ years accounting experience in the insurance industry is a must
- Experience with the Guidewire insurance application, specifically Guidewire BillingCenter is a strong asset
- Data entry and general accounting knowledge is an asset.
- Experience with Microsoft Business Central is an asset.
- Experience within the P- Experience completing month-end journal entries and analyzing monthly account reconciliations is an asset.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, multi-tasking, and time management skills to manage multiple competing deadlines.
- Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and IFRS is an asset.
- Able to understand a communicate the story told within the accounting data.
- An enjoyment for building reports and reporting functions to enhance efficiencies.
- Highly effective communication/communicator.
- High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts.
- Advanced proficiency with computer applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
