Support Services Group (SSG) is seeking a strategic, experienced, and detail-oriented
Accountant
to lead the organization's financial operations. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, this role is responsible for overseeing all financial functions, including budgeting, reporting, compliance, audit preparation, and internal financial policy development.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Oversight and Reporting
Prepare timely and accurate monthly financial statements and reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and variance analysis
Ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements including CRA, GST/HST, and charitable reporting obligations
Analyze financial performance, identify trends and risks, and advise the Executive Director on key financial matters
Manage the general ledger, reconciliations, and subledgers (AP/AR/payroll)
Provide financial insight to support executive decision-making and operational planning
Audit and Compliance
Prepare and coordinate documentation for the annual external audit
Liaise with auditors and respond to all audit requests
Review the audit management letter and implement recommended controls and improvements
Ensure internal policies, procedures, and documentation support compliance and accountability
Budgeting and Strategic Planning
Lead the development of the annual organizational budget in consultation with the Executive Director and program teams
Provide budgetary oversight for funding proposals and reporting to funders (e.g., Department of Opportunities and Social Development)
Monitor budget performance and support course correction as needed
Collaborate with senior leadership on long-term financial forecasting and planning
Cash Flow and Asset Management
Manage organizational liquidity and prepare rolling cash flow forecasts
Monitor capital expenditures and asset tracking
Oversee leases, contracts, loans, and other financial commitments
Maintain strong relationships with banking and financial partners
Payroll and HR Finance Support
Act as a resource to payroll staff and oversee compliance with legislative payroll requirements
Support RRSP administration and employee status reporting
Liaise with Workers' Compensation Board regarding claims and reporting
Leadership and Collaboration
Participate in senior management meetings and contribute to operational planning
Provide financial leadership across departments and foster a culture of fiscal responsibility
Assist coordinators with budgeting and financial planning for program funding applications
Help develop a strong internal control environment and promote organizational sustainability
Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor's degree in business, Accounting, or Finance (required)
CPA designation (required)
Minimum 3 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, ideally in the non-profit or social services sector
Proficiency in Simply Accounting (Sage) and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
Strong understanding of Canadian GAAP, CRA regulations, and employment legislation
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
High level of accuracy, confidentiality, and professional integrity
Valid driver's license and access to a personal vehicle for travel between office locations

Pay: $60,000.00-$70,000.00 per year
