The Role:

Rakuten Kobo Inc. is looking for a Accessibility Specialist Intern (12 Months) to join our Product and Design team! The team is comprised of many highly talented enthusiastic individuals who ensure the services and offerings from Kobo are available to both internal and external customers.

Reporting to the Accessibility and Publishing Standards Lead, the Accessibility Specialist Intern will act as an in-house consultant for our Research and Development team focusing on product and design accessibility. Furthermore, they will build and update documentation for accessibility guidance, work with our Research and Development team on projects, and act as a resource for accessibility best-practices.

The Person:

  • Strong passion for accessibility and enacting change.
  • Interested in working on impactful products that touch the lives of millions of users.
  • Knowledgeable of technologies used within the eBook industry, including EPUB files, eReaders, mobile applications (iOS and Android), websites, etc.
Responsibilities Include:
  • Creation of documentation for accessibility guidance.
  • Support internal Research and Development team on projects relating to product, design, and accessibility.
  • Provide support and guidance for accessibility best-practices.
The Skillset:

Required:
  • Education and/or experience focusing on computer and/or technical studies. Open to graduates of technical bootcamps, college, university, etc.
  • Interest in accessibility, technology, product, and design.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Sense of curiosity and being a change maker.
  • Knowledge of project management and the project management process.
  • Ability to think critically and be receptive to learning through constructive critique.
Nice to Haves:
  • Knowledge of software development life cycle.
  • Knowledge of assistive technologies and/or digital accessibility standards.
  • Experience with Web Technologies (HTML, Javascript, CSS),
  • Experience with Model UI Frameworks: Angular, React.
  • Experience with iOS and Android Applications testing.
  • Experience with React Native.
