Reporting to the Manager, Equity Diversity & Inclusion, the Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Specialist would support the evolution and implementation of LAO\'s EDI multi-year strategy by developing and supporting the development of resources, tools and action plans to advance the identified goals within the business plan.

The successful candidate will be passionate about cultural transformation, fostering inclusion and driving organizational change.

Key accountabilities

  • Develop and execute the communication strategy to support the EDI multi-year plan
  • Develop content and set agendas for the EDI and accessibility committees
  • Assist with the recognition and response to employee EDI related issues, including effectively managing sensitive and confidential employee matters
  • Research and draft EDI acknowledgements and other EDI related communications materials
  • Conduct research and prepare content for training, speaking events and awareness campaigns
  • Plan and coordinate organization wide events
  • Develop draft policies, guidelines, process documents, briefing notes, surveys, reports, etc., as requested
  • Work with the manager to identifying EDI priorities and projects
  • With a focus on continuous improvement, develop metrics to evaluate and gather data to report on progress of the EDI strategy and initiatives
  • Support and promote an inclusive work culture
  • Keep up to date with trends, research and issues
Required skills & experience
  • A minimum of 3 years directly relevant experience working in an EDI field, equity studies or related field
  • A passion for and understanding of broad principles of equity, diversity and inclusion
  • Experience applying an equity lens; consciously and constructively ensuring all diversity is included
  • Proven knowledge of and experience applying diversity and inclusion programs, frameworks and best practices
  • Knowledge of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) Ontario Human Rights Code and the Canadian Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms
  • Ability to collaborate with people at all job levels, both internally and externally
  • Strong experience providing an EDI perspective to corporate policies, strategies, projects and initiatives, championing impactful and sustainable change
  • Motivated and able to work in an inclusive and collaborative team environment, as well as independently
  • Strong communication and analytical skills
  • Strong work ethic, initiative and organizational skills to meet deadlines and achieve results
  • Strategic analysis
  • Confidentiality, tact and professionalism
Preferred Skills
  • Facilitation and presentation skills
  • Project and change management skills
  • Practical and lived experience with EDI would be considered an asset
  • Fluency in French would be considered an asset
