Job Description

Brandon University is seeking Contract Academic Staff instructors in the School of Music to teach the following music history/musicology courses from September 3 to December 22, 2025 (Fall term) and/or from January 6 to April 25, 2026 (Winter term).

64:130 MUSIC HISTORY SURVEY I - 3 credit hours - Fall Term - Tues/Thurs 10:10-11:30 (Slot 11)

A chronological survey of Western art music from Ancient Greece to the Baroque period, examining cultural and historical context, major composers, genres, representative works, and stylistic characteristics, as well as different methodologies used to investigate this music. The student will gain skills in critical thinking, score reading, listening, research, and writing. Note: students in this class must be able to read musical scores in Western music notation.

64:131 MUSIC HISTORY SURVEY II - 3 credit hours - Winter Term - Tues/Thurs 10:10-11:30 (Slot 11)

A chronological survey of Western art music from the Classic period to the 21st century, examining cultural and historical context, major composers, genres, representative works, and stylistic characteristics, as well as different methodologies used to investigate this music. The student will gain skills in critical thinking, score reading, listening, research, and writing.

64:236 MUSIC AND GENDER - 3 credit hours - Fall Term - Mon/Wed/Fri 11:40-12:30 (Slot 4)

This course will consider the role of gender in music culture with case studies from art music, world music, and popular music repertoires.

64:351 MUSIC IN CANADA - 3 credit hours - Winter Term - Mon/Wed/Fri 1:40-2:30 (Slot 6)

This course will introduce the primary issues and themes relevant to the study of music in Canada, engaging with case studies from art, traditional, and popular music repertoires.

Qualifications

: Master's degree in music is required, Doctorate and/or relevant teaching experience preferred. Equivalent traditional/experiential career paths will also be considered. Salary

: $7,857 per 3 credit hour course
