900-General Admin - Manager, H&S

Location: ALS Canada Limited, either Sudbury, Val-d\'Or or Rouyn-Noranda facility

Reports to: Eastern Canada Operations Manager

About the Position:

The HSE Manager for the Geochemistry Division in Eastern Canada has overall responsibility for safety, health and environment functions in the ALS Geochemistry Eastern Canada facilities. The focus will be on coordination and communication of all HSE responsibilities and programs between business locations. This will represent ALS and liaise with regulatory agencies and local authorities as needed. Reporting to the Eastern Canada Operations Manager, this role will partner with the rest of the North American HSE team to develop, support and implement policies and initiatives where needed.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Report Health, Safety, Environment matters in Eastern Canada to Regional Directors in a timely manner;
  • Fulfil site specific HSE responsibilities for Eastern Canada Geochemistry locations;
  • Coordinate and communicate corporate HSE responsibilities between the locations and associated safety resources;
  • Represent ALS when dealing with Health, Safety and Environment regulatory entities as needed;
  • Assess, interpret and implement all requirements of the Occupational Safety and Health Association regulations;
  • Ensure compliance with all environmental regulatory needs;
  • Support safety standards within the group;
  • Organize and implement training sessions;
  • Monitor claims within the group and liaise with the Occupational Injury Manager ;
  • Develop programs to reduce the frequency, severity and cost of any workplace injuries;
  • Implement current and future HSE policies and programs throughout the group;
  • Participate in or lead regional HSE audits;
  • Review and report on regional HSE performance monthly or as required;
  • Ensure correct methods are utilized in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;
  • Observe established safety regulations and complies with all health and safety policies and procedures;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Remains current with health, safety and environment standards across Canada;

  • Excellent French - English communication skills both written and verbal.
Required Qualifications
  • Completion or current participation in a university degree, College level or Institutional Occupational Health and Safety Program or equivalent;
  • Minimum of 3 years recent, progressively responsible experience in Health and Safety;
  • A minimum of 1 year management experience strongly preferred.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to travel periodically when required;
  • Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities;
  • Ability to communicate via telephone and email without assistance.
