BHP\'s CAD$14 billion (US$10.5 billion) investment in the Jansen project will deliver a potash mine in Saskatchewan designed to maximize sustainability. As the largest investment in Saskatchewan\'s history, Jansen is expected to generate approximately 5,500 workforce opportunities during construction and 900 long-term roles.Jansen\'s construction will take place over several years with first production planned for late 2026. Once fully ramped up, Jansen is expected to have an initial production capacity of approximately 8.5 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa), with the potential to produce 16 to 17 Mtpa in future stages. To find out more about Potash and the Jansen project, .PurposeReporting to the Head of Health, Safety, Security (HSS), the HSE Manager provides leadership to a team, or teams focused on the strategic management of safety related issues, provisions and initiatives across the organization. They translate strategy into Team Jansen Program Delivery plans (Jansen 1 [JS1] and Jansen 2 [JS2] Projects) and Potash Operational plans associated with to the Health, Safety and Security Function.About the RoleIn this role, you will:

  • Be accountable to lead, set and manage safety performance requirements for the Jansen Program and the Potash Operation / Asset.
  • Lead people by example to empower and thrive their talent and operating discipline within the HSS Function and our BHP Operating System.
  • Establish the vision and framework for contractual HSS and legislative requirements.
  • Communicate and effectively coach/mentor all levels within the organization on BHP Safety and HSS aspects for the Program and Safety aspects for Potash Asset.
  • Maintain and is accountable for the HSS Service considering the Jansen Program Director as one the main internal customers.
  • Ensure the effective delivery of HSS Strategies and Plans for the Jansen Program.
  • Prepare the HSS performance monitoring and materials for the Jansen Program parent companies.
  • Liaise with the parent companies of the upcoming requirements to discuss their relevance to the projects (JS1 and JS2) and monitor the overall resourcing for the HSS team to support the ongoing requirements.
  • Perform/support the maintenance and measurement of the HSS Integrated Management System, ensuring capacity and capability in the line management.
About the Role (cont\'d)
  • Oversee the Field Leadership Program, Event Reporting, Incident Investigation and Management of the HSS strategy for the Program and the Safety strategy for the Asset.
  • Oversee the Integrated Program Team\'s contractor pre-qualification review and approval.
  • Manage, improve and provide expertise on the Fatality Elimination Program and safety risk management practices to improve organizational safety outcomes and performance.
  • Make evidence based and strategic decisions in alignment with longer term business objectives.
  • Identify, engage and manage a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders, including Jansen Program Sponsors and Potash Asset stakeholders, including HSS-related governmental authorities.
  • Identify and assess risks, make risk informed decisions, use BHP\'s risk management framework and build a risk aware culture to support safe and productive performance outcomes.
  • Plan, track the delivery of and manage HSS-relevant projects to generate value and drive the achievement of project, program and asset outcomes.
  • Source information, plan and conduct analyses to support evidence-based decision making.
  • Apply and evaluate change management tools, methods, data, purpose, value and strategic direction.
  • Engage the capabilities of the entire organization.
  • Strive to achieve 100% safety, 100% customer value and 0% waste.
  • Know our customer and is keen on meeting their needs.
About You
  • First degree in engineering degree or safety relevant professional degree (health, psychology, etc.).
  • Master\'s degree in relevant discipline would be an asset.
  • Extensive experience in Safety roles within the mining industry and/or major capital projects industry (development and delivery); and highly technical knowledge in incident investigations, human and organizational performance and/or safety science.
  • Demonstrable experience in leadership capacity.
Work LocationDowntown, Saskatoon office with frequent visits to the Jansen mine site. 40 hours per week. Hybrid working (flexible, shared workstations and a combination of office and work from home) is standard for BHP.BHP offers domestic relocation assistance to support the successful incumbent in transitioning, if required.
