Reporting to the CEO the Director is responsible for driving sales and profitability for the PEILCC through execution or retail strategies and tactics including those relating to merchandising, marketing, inventory control, customer service, employee's relations as well as internal security and control policies in the retail stores. The Director is a member of the PEILCC executive management team providing strategic and overall general operations advice to the CEO.


Duties will include but are not limited to:




Direct PEILCC Retail Management Team in the Daily Operation of PEILCC Retail Outlets. Ensure that defined processes and standards are maintained and that deficiencies in performance are addressed though appropriate and effective corrective measures. Conduct periodic store visits/evaluations to ensure the execution of quality service and merchandising standards and activities. Encourage the management capabilities of store managers by providing operational expertise and coaching. Budgeting-Overseeing retail stores budgeting process, compile operational budgets for PEILCC stores and ensure support and coaching is provided to PEILCC Store Managers in order to achieve targets. Engage in an annual consultation exercise with store managers regarding annual staffing requirements and sales projections as directed by the CEO. Develop draft budgets for each PEILCC corporate retail store while considering input provided by PEILCC corporate store managers. Prepare recommendations for the CEO on adjustments to budgets due to conflicting views with PEILCC store managers. Employee Relations-Complete performance plans for the PEILCC Retail Managers, Provide coaching to managers in the areas of employee relations and overall performance management. Act as a general mentor and confidant to PEILCC retail staff. Provide support to the CEO in the scheduling of PEILCC managers. Empower and motivate managers and all employees to participate actively in the operation and improvement of PEILCC stores. Provide coaching and guidance to managers in the administration of all performance and attendance management efforts (e.g. performance evaluations, performance management plans) and see to their completion and follow up. Act as a corporate liaison to PEILCC Stores to ensure front line tactics are constantly aligned with organization's strategic goals. Conduct reviews with store management to ensure all PEILCC programs and policies are effectively being implemented and adhered to. Proactively identify and recommend new operational tactics to constantly improve PEILCC operations. Periodically meet with various directors to ensure the PEILCC executive management team is aware of potential issues and new requirement. Process and organizational improvement - constantly evaluate ways in which retail processes and organizational structure can be adjusted to increase productivity and profits. Provide direction and guidance to PEILCC store management in the area of employee scheduling to optimize various labour to sales ratios. Make operational recommendations to the CEO and HR & EW Director regarding the requirement for changes in organizational structure of retail outlets (e.g. hiring new staff, moving existing positions to different outlets) to improve operational outcomes. Make recommendations to PEILCC executive management regarding the collective bargaining process as it relates to retail operations.

Minimum Qualifications:




Successful completion of a related diploma or degree. Successful completion of Wine and Spirits Educational Trust (WSET) Level 2 Certificate or another directly related product knowledge certificate/designation such as sommelier or cicerone. Successful completion of related leadership, conflict resolution, performance management and labor relations training courses. Extensive experience in retail sales management (e.g. scheduling, directing workflow, performance management, administering discipline, training and coaching). Extensive experience with the administrative functions of Financial Management and Point-of Sale systems as they relate to a retail organization. Demonstrated equivalencies will be considered. A thorough understanding of the PEI UPSE collective agreement, the PEI Liquor Control Act, and all relevant policies and procedures as set out by the PEILCC. Knowledge of the beverage alcohol industry in Canada (i.e. suppliers, agents, carriers). Proficient in the use of spreadsheet and word processor software applications. Ability to meet continuous and changing deadlines under pressure. Ability to multi-task and manage priorities while remaining attentive to detail and organized. Ability to learn and adapt to new procedures quickly and easily. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a proven ability to coach and mentor others. A good previous work and attendance record.

Other Qualifications:




A master's degree in business administration would be considered an asset. Additional relevant education and experience would be considered an asset.
